We are the Family Practice and Counseling Network, a program of Resources for Human Development. We are a network of federally qualified community health centers that use a nurse-managed, integrated model to deliver primary care, dental, behavioral health, preventative, and other comprehensive services.
We are currently hiring Certified Medical Assistants at 3 different sites in Philadelphia - Northwest Philadelphia and North Philadelphia (that location is in partnership with Drexel) and Southwest Philadelphia. The positions are full-time and pay a starting rate of $17.60 per hour, with a higher salary commensurate with experience, along with a very generous benefits and PTO plan. The position does require a current Medical Assistant certification from an accredited board (NHA, ACMA, etc.). One (1) year of work as an MA is preferred; however, we are open to recent graduates, as well.
 
Job Description:
The Certified Medical Assistant will be responsible for administrative and clinical support services in primary care. Upholds the health center mission by assuring that patients receive health care that is competent, caring, and meets with a high degree of satisfaction.

In addition, staff must support FPCN's commitment to the creation of a trauma-informed system of care that continually recognizes and responds to the impact of traumatic stress on all those who have contact with the organization, including children, adults, families, caregivers, and staff.

Required Education:
  • High School Diploma/GED.

Required Experience:
  • 1 year of experience working as a Medical Assistant or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Experience working within a community-based health center is preferred.

Required Qualifications:
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification in Commonwealth of PA required.
  • Computer Competency with Word Processing.
  • Familiarity with an Electronic Medical Record system.
  • Exemplary organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
  • Ability to function as a team member.
  • Highly responsible and reliable as well as courteous.
  • Unconditional ability to maintain patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities/Duties:

Direct Patient Care:
  • Prepares the environment to assure that the all necessary equipment/information is available for effective and efficient care during the visit.
  • Greets the patient and helps the patients feel prepared for their visit.
  • Completes vital signs, weight, and height, EKGs, eye and hearing exams, as assigned.
  • Assures that all documentation is correct and complete.
  • Works with the CRNP to provide comprehensive care.
  • Maintain medical records using standard filing systems.
  • Performs inventory control and ordering supplies, as assigned.
  • Initiates and performs rapid HIV test, including consent form.
  • Completes all necessary paperwork.
  • Assists with therapeutic procedures.
  • Prepares and administers medications as ordered.
  • Collects and preserves bodily fluids, blood, and other specimens.
  • Performs simple STAT screening tests on collected specimens.

Indirect Patient Care:
  • Prepares forms for visit.
  • Prepares and forwards requests for referrals as assigned which may involve all or some of the following: obtaining health insurance authorization, completing referral forms, making referral appointments for patient, coordinating on-site Transportation Services, and notifying patients when a referral is complete.
  • Prepares and forwards requests for medication refills as assigned.

General Laboratory Services:
  • Performs a variety of standard lab tests with standing orders from primary care providers (including but not limited to blood sugars, urine dip, etc).
  • Prepares laboratory specimens to assure the correct information.
  • Completes all paperwork and forms related to the handling of specimens and documents all actions in the patient record.
  • Records receipt of lab results, tracks results not received and forwards all results to primary care. By direct order of primary care provider, records test/procedure results in the patient record.

Maintenance of Laboratory-Related Equipment and Supplies:
  • Takes inventory of supplies on a regular basis, order supplies, and store upon their arrival.
  • Ensures lab equipment is properly maintained which includes knowledge of routine handling/usage, storage, and cleansing/sterilization. Has equipment been serviced at recommended intervals according to manufacturer’s and/or OSHA guidelines?

Triage:
  • Assists the primary care providers and clinical nurses in collecting information related to triaging patients.

General:
  • Consistently practices universal precautions.
  • Participates in relevant Practice committees.
  • Performs additional duties related to the responsibilities of the Medical Assistant as directed by the supervisor.
  • Substitutes for Medical Assistants at other practices, when deemed necessary by the supervisor.
  • Supports smooth functioning of practice by completing data entry as assigned.
  • Receives cross-training as a Medical Receptionist and substitutes for this role at the Practice when deemed. necessary by the supervisor. This includes scheduling, registration, updating patient records, answering phones, and other duties as required.

Pay/Benefits:
  • Starting rate of $17.60 per hour, with higher salary commensurate with experience, as well as generous benefits and PTO plan.
