The mission of the Department of Aviation Science is to combine academic studies and flight training in order to prepare graduates for a wide variety of positions within the air transportation industry, including general, airline and military aviation. Successful candidates will be staff members that can work with their colleagues to help meet the mission of the department of Aviation Science in serving and supporting our racially and ethnically diverse campus community.
To ensure compliance with FAA regulations, BSU is conducting a search for a Staff Assistant-Certified Flight Instructor, Team Lead.
The Staff Assistant - Certified Flight Instructor - Team Lead conducts 14 CFR Part 141 and 61 single engine training year-round from New Bedford Regional Airport in New Bedford, MA and provides monitoring of student progress in flight courses.
Supervision Received: Reports to the Chief Instructor.
Supervision Exercised: Check and line Flight Instructors.

This is a full-time, 12 month exempt position that falls within the APA Union and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.
TOUR OF DUTY : Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
(Subject to change) (Saturday and Sunday as days off)
This position is located at the BSU Flight Training Center located at New Bedford Regional Airport in New Bedford, Massachusetts.
Essential Duties:
• Provide flight, simulator, and ground instruction in accordance with Bridgewater State University ( BSU ) flight training program and FAA policies and procedures.
• Monitor student progress in one or more 14 CFR Part 141 Flight Courses to ensure student progress and refer students on a case-by-case basis to the Chief Instructor for additional mentoring, as needed.
• Conduct weekly checks of all students in course(s) to which they are assigned as Team Lead to ensure that training is being conducted regularly, using flight scheduling software reports and student training records.
• Meet with students who are in course(s) to which they are assigned as Team Lead who have received Student Training Updates or who have failed Stage Checks to provide mentoring and guidance to help ensure student success.
• Report weekly to the Chief Instructor and the Staff Assistant - Standards and Evaluation on student progress in the course(s) to which they have been assigned as Team Lead.
• Conduct student record audits in preparation for Stage Checks and Practical Tests, as needed.
• Comply with all applicable Bridgewater State University and FAA regulations to ensure the highest quality of training is provided to assigned student(s) in each flight course.
• Obtain appropriate annual professional development activity.
• Perform other duties as necessary.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field.
  • Excellent skills in teamwork, time management, presentations, coaching/leadership/supervision, interpersonal, verbal and written communication.
  • Must possess FAA Commercial Pilot ( ASEL / AMEL ), CFI / CFII , current or prior experience as a Check Airman. FAA 3rd Class Medical.
  • Three years of experience with 14 CFR Part 141 aviation operations.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of FAA , Commonwealth of Massachusetts, local, and BSU policy and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, perform, integrate and manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.
  • Ability to demonstrate safe practices and procedures at all times when operating in the aviation environment.
  • Ability and desire to provide the highest level of professionalism and customer service to all internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure while demonstrating ability to make independent business decisions using sound judgement.
  • Demonstrated skill and ability in writing, developing, and evaluating procedural guidelines and manuals.
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate diverse data and formulate into coherent practical operations.
  • Strong knowledge of computer software applications such as Microsoft Office suite of programs and flight training management system.
  • Possess and maintain the appropriate and current FAA certifications applicable to the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • FAA Certified Airline Transport Pilot. FAA MEI . FAASTeam representative or similar experience.
  • Experience with compliance and records management.
  • Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, various Windows utilities, and web-based applications.
  • Experience with educational institution policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Meet 14 CFR Part 141.36© and (d) Assistant Chief Instructor qualifications.
  • No past, current, or pending FAA actions on the individual's pilot and/or instructor certificate.
