SUMMARY:
Responsible and accountable for abstracting pertinent information from patient records. Assigns ICD-10-CM or CPT codes, creating APC or DRG group assignments.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education: Associate’s degree or other.
Experience: Minimum of two years progressive coding experience in ICD-10-CM/PCS. Associate’s or other degree required or 10 years of inpatient coding of more complex inpatient medical records.
Certifications: Certification required MUST obtain one or more of the following Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) from the American Health Information Management Association or Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) from the American Academy of Professional Coders
Other: Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skill. Analyzes medical records in order to code and abstract medical information to be submitted to financial reimbursement as required for the Uniform Bill and for the DRG/Prospective Payment System. Resolves error reports etc. Demonstrate excellent organizational, computer, and team building skills. Prefer someone with 3M encoder familiarity.

Ability to stand/walk, bend/stoop/twist, and occasionally lift up to 10 lbs. Must be able to handle critical and highly stressful situations with efficiency and composure.
