Position Title: High School Assistant Cheerleading Coach

Reports to: Head Cheer Coach and Director of Activities
Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated by the Director of Activities annually
Extra Duty Category: III
Pay Steps Range from $3,066.66 to $3,748.14.
Crete Public Schools is seeking applications for High School Assistant Cheerleading Coach. The person in this position will be responsible for assisting the Head Cheerleading Coach during the 2024-2025 sports seasons at Crete High School. This position follows the extra-duty salary schedule and terms found in the negotiated agreement. This position is considered open until filled.
Essential Requirements:

  1. High School Diploma or GED
  2. Must possess a Nebraska Coaching Certificate at all times during employment with such endorsements as required by NDE Rule 10.
  3. First Aid and CPR training required (may be obtained on the job and must be kept current)
  4. Must possess a motor vehicle operator's license with a certificate to operate a school vehicle.
  5. Cheerleading experience preferred.
  6. Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
  7. Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions, and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism.
  8. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
  9. Successful completion of background check

Essential Job Functions:
  1. Assists in coaching student athletes for competitive Cheerleader techniques to prepare them for events or competitions.
  2. Works with cheerleaders during practices and meets.
  3. Coaches and instructs cheerleaders, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  4. Observes cheerleaders, during events and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
  5. Promote the physical, mental, moral, social and emotional well-being of the student participants.
  6. Promote appreciation of discipline and good sportsmanship.
  7. Promote an extracurricular activity program that represents the school in a positive manner.
  8. Assist head coach to plan, organize, and conduct practice sessions that will efficiently develop individual skills and team performance without interfering with academic and other commitments of the participants and that will actively involve all participants.
  9. Plan and direct physical conditioning programs that will enable athletes to achieve maximum performance.
  10. Instruct individuals or groups in sport or activity rules, strategies, and performance principles such as specific ways of moving the body, hands, and/or feet in order to achieve desired results, and explain and demonstrate the use of sports and training equipment.
  11. Encourage and build mutual trust, respect and cooperation among team members.
  12. Coach competitive activities with the objective of competitive success tailored to making the experience enjoyable and rewarding to the students.
  13. Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards cheerleaders, officials, and spectators.
  14. Provide for the reasonable care and safety of students under the coach's supervision.
  15. Monitor students' use of equipment in order to ensure safe and proper use.
  16. Oversee the safety conditions of the facility or area in which assigned activity is conducted at all times that students are present.
  17. Acts as a team representative and promotes cheerleading by communicating with the news media, booster clubs, service clubs, and other organizations.
  18. Participates in special activities to include parent's night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
  19. Models non discriminatory practices in all activities.
  20. Maintain accurate team statistics, records, and results of the season.
  21. Maintain an accurate and current team roster and submits copies to the Director of Activities.
  22. Maintain confidentiality of information concerning colleagues, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.
  23. Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.

At-Will Position:
  • This position is an "at-will" position and may be terminated, with or without cause, at any time in the sole discretion of the Superintendent or Superintendent's designee.
