The SCCC Central Cancer Registry Specialist identifies, registers, and maintains records of all cancer patients by using a registry data system. Analyzes data and releases information in adherence to established ethical standards.
- Identifies abstract and code pathology laboratory data from labs in the matching information to state Agency for Health Care Administration and determine status.
- Assists with the abstracting of cancer cases from hospitals, freestanding, ambulatory and radiation center in the State.
- Process Vital Statistics Death Tapes against Florida Cancer Data Systems master file.
- Monitor and ensure cancer records reporting compliance from all reporting sources, which include hospitals, pathology labs, radiation therapy centers, ambulatory surgical centers, and medical licensed practitioners, with Florida Statute 385.202 (Florida Registry Laws).
- Responsible for responding to technical questions arising from all reporting sources.
- Process cancer records from assigned reporting sources in the FCDS database.
- Resolve cancer data discrepancies (make corrections) in the FCDS database based on standardized cancer reporting rules.
- Process the Consolidated Follow Back records (from the AHCA and Vital Statistics files) for the reporting sources which will include hospitals and non-hospitals.
- Train reporting sources to act in accordance with State and FCDS policies (e.g., case finding, abstracting, and cancer data reporting).
- Assist with the FCDS User Accounts and Abstractor Codes Maintenance.
- Assist with the Mail File Maintenance.
- Responsible for all Over-Ride processing of exceptional cancer records. This includes review, potential correction and setting over-ride flags once case has been properly documented.
- Participate as needed in clearing edits required for submitting FCDS data to our state data exchange partners.
- Assist in the testing and implementation of the Florida state specific EDITS metafile.
- Contribute ideas and articles for the monthly memo and newsletter.
- Act as a backup to all Quality Control and Data Acquisition functions as needed.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's Degree in related field
Experience: Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
• General knowledge of office procedures and operations
• Skill in data entry with minimal errors
• Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, reports and correspondence
