Governor Polis announced on May 4, 2023 that this classification (if working within a 24/7 facility) may be eligible for non-base building temporary pay up to 10% through Fiscal Year 24/25 which ends in June 2025. Job Location: Trinidad Correctional Facility in Model, CO
The starting salary for this position is $5,675.00 per month.


The position provides entry-level marketable job skills to inmate students within an adult educational correctional system/facility by delivering instruction, training and assessments in Customer Service curriculum in accordance with the Colorado Community College System (CCCS) and/or the Colorado State Licensing Board (if applicable). This position will also provide oversight of Computer Based Testing to include Test Proctor duties.
Job Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Teach and mentor inmate students individually or in large and small group classrooms promoting academic performance skills;
  • Determine educational needs of inmate students to develop short and long term goals;
  • Develop and implement competency-based teaching aids such as instructional software, multimedia visual aids, or study materials;
  • Lecture on theories, concepts and terminology;
  • Select and administer appropriate performance assessments to inmate students in order to measure progress, course completion requirements, and to evaluate training/testing effectiveness;
  • Prepare reports and maintain records such as student grades, attendance rosters, and training activity details;
  • Observe and evaluate inmate students' work to determine progress, provide feedback, and make suggestions for improvement;
  • Document inmate achievements, competencies and contact hours towards completion of certificate requirements;
  • Justify accuracy and usage of budget requests;
  • Participate in conferences, seminars, and training sessions to keep abreast of developments in the field, and integrate relevant information into training programs;
  • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with fellow teachers in a cooperative effort to promote mutual and continued guidance and improvements;
  • Actively contribute to the *safety and security of the facility through effective offender management and promoting conflict resolution and solutions;
  • Endorse and adhere to the CDOC Mission and Vision promoting commitment and integrity;
  • Maintain Colorado Community College Credential.
*Safety & Security - position maintains safety and security by training inmates; and occasionally or in an emergent situation perform inmate counts, searches, escorts, movement control, and offender access to classrooms. Through conscientious observation and adherence to agency Administrative Regulations and the Code of Penal Discipline, the position promotes a safe and secure work environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in an Education or Training related field ---AND--- the applicant must have completed 2,000 hours of verifiable occupational experience in an education or training industry related to the credential area within the last seven (7) years as per the requirements of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS).
There is no substitution for the completed 2,000 hours as referenced above.

Experience MUST be described in detail on your application to receive credit.

Employment history is calculated on a full-time basis (40 hours per week). Part-time employment is calculated on a pro-rated basis to determine qualifications. In lieu of a Bachelor's Degree in an Education, Training or related field of study, applicant must possess a current State of Colorado, national, industry, military, or union license/certification as appropriate for an Education or Training industry skill or related trade area ---AND--- the applicant must have completed 4,000 hours verifiable occupational experience in an education or training industry related to the credential area within the last seven (7) years as per the requirements of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS).
There is no substitution for the completed 4,000 hours as referenced above.

SUBSTITUTION #2:

Conditions of employment after meeting the minimum qualifications:

  • Must possess or obtain a CCCS post-secondary credential in a Business, Education or Training related field in compliance with the Colorado Community College System (CCCS) within six (6) months of date of hire.
  • Must obtain a Colorado Community College Professional Teacher Credential within three (3) years of date of hire.
  • Must maintain a Colorado Community College Initial/Professional Teacher Credential through the duration of employment.

A copy of your college transcripts MUST be attached to this application in order to receive college course work credit. Transcripts must include your name, name of the institution, degree, date conferred, and be in pdf or jpg format.

Transcripts from colleges or universities outside the United States must be assessed for U.S. equivalency by a NACES educational credential evaluation service.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • CCCS Credential in Business;
  • Experience teaching or training adults;
  • Experience teaching or training in Business Management/Accounting;
  • Experience teaching or training in a correctional environment;
  • Experience working for a State of Colorado agency.
