REAR-LOAD ROUTE DRIVER is responsible for driving an industrial refuse truck on specified routes to mechanically and manually collect solid waste and transport it to appropriate disposal sites. Daily work will involve driving trucks & supporting Laborer Techs (helpers) with heavy industrial lifting as needed. Must be able to prove proper CDL/Licensure and Medical Card and maintain an excellent driving record for insurability purposes. Must remain physically fit and able to get into & out of company vehicle without complication. Must also be able to lift waist high, gripping with hands, moving at a brisk consistent pace, and occasional bending. This position will also be responsible for safe driving practices. Must be able to speak English in accordance with DOT Federal Regulations and be able to read a map. Must have good communication skills and be able to extend professional and courteous service to customers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ability to report to duty on time (5:00 am)
A typical schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, with some Saturdays as needed or because of sliding holidays or inclement weather.
Perform Complete Pre/Post-Trip Inspections and periodic inspections throughout the working tour.
Ability to safely operate an industrial refuse truck on specified routes to collect solid waste.
Ability to read route sheets and service each customer identified on the sheet and as designated by the Supervisor or Dispatcher
Ability to perform and support manual trash pickups with the assistance of assigned Laborer Techs (helpers)
Be able to operate at a safe and skilled pace and as a team with assigned Laborer Techs (helpers)
Must be able to follow safe operating practices.
Operate vehicles safely in all types of inclement weather conditions.
Operate hydraulic hand controls to lift/load refuse and dispose of trash at designated facilities
Must be able to communicate internally and externally using professional interpersonal skills and good customer service techniques
Must be able to follow Supervisor/Dispatch directives to include supporting other area routes in cases of volume overages, equipment breakdowns, etc.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Requires physical conditioning to be able to get in and out of the vehicle throughout various stages of the route and in support of Laborer Techs (helpers).
Ability to lift, push, or pull required containers or objects over 50 pounds.
The work environment involves working with moving mechanical parts requiring basic safety precautions.
Although in driving capacity much of the time, the Driver is exposed to outside weather, including frequent wet and/or humid conditions, as well as exposure to fumes and normal vehicle vibration.
