Join our CCTV Camera Truck Operator Team in Fairfax County and be part of
Wastewater Management family that is responsible for inspecting sanitary sewer lines.
This position is mainly responsible for assisting with daily preparation of the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) unit for the inspection, repairs and maintenance of sewer lines located in Fairfax County. Responsibilities include:
  • Prepares Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) equipment unit for inspection of the sanitary sewer on daily basis.
  • Pre-trips CCTV inspection truck and any assisting vehicles to ensure fluids, mechanical and electronic equipment, and safety lights are in good working order.
  • Ensures that all supplies and tools are on the vehicle and in good working condition for daily tasks. Adjusts equipment to ensure accurate reading is captured.
  • Operates a motor vehicle in compliance with Virginia State Laws and regulations. Assures that the worksite is safe for both the workers and citizens by following the regulations set by OSHA and VDOT.
  • Enter confined spaces while ensuring all safety regulations are followed. Assists with compiling reports for the procurement of parts. Maintains Jobsite, signs, cones, traffic flow, function of reel, checks for problems/defaults in and around the worksite.
  • Assists with the preparation and documentation of accurate WinCan codes reports for inspections performed.
  • Assists in communicating with citizens, inspectors, contractors, and other entities (agencies) of Fairfax County the results of inspections as well as all Fairfax County codes and regulations pertaining to the sanitary sewer.
  • Troubleshooting techniques and some knowledge of county GIS, computerized asset management system and desktop software.
  • Assists with inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining the closed-circuit television equipment as well as any related inspection equipment. This includes the cleaning and replacement of broken, worn, or defective parts. Reads schematic drawings to assist in the diagnosis and repair of electronic equipment.

Note: The appointee to this position is subject to emergency callback 24 hours a day/seven days a week (24/7) to respond to snow, flood, and other emergencies requiring division resources.
*A $2,500 signing bonus is available to new county employees hired in the Instrumentation Technician II position.
Employment Standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to a high school diploma or GED issued by a state department of education; completion of a vocation course in electronics, one year of work experience related to the installation, maintenance and repair of industrial instrumentation or electronic/electrical equipment found in water or wastewater utilities.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid driver's license.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a pre-employment physical examination, and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
Subject to 24 hour call back and must, therefore, be able to work emergency overtime. Subject to working in adverse weather conditions and may be exposed to raw waste or environments generating methane gas. Ability to distinguish different color wiring.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of at least 1 - 2 years of proven experience in the following:
  1. Working in a wastewater environment specifically working on sewer line inspections.
  2. Performing CCTV and sewer system practices, techniques, materials, and equipment of all activities related to the video inspection of Sewer Lines
  3. Performing troubleshoots and repairs using a) CCTV cameras and tractors or b) electrical instrumentation control systems.
  4. Operating CCTV cameras for inspections of sewer lines.
  5. Basic Microsoft Office Suite applications or (insert type of software/system) to collect data.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to communicate effectively both oral and in writing. Ability to lift/slide up to 90 pounds with assistance. This includes opening manhole lids, CCTV equipment. Ability to operate a variety of hand tools. This includes machete, all manholes tool, hooks. Ability to operate county vehicles to various locations throughout Fairfax County to complete all tasks assigned. Ability to stand, kneel or bend for long periods of time and occasional stooping. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and in hot and cold temperatures. Must be able to physically negotiate rough terrain on uneven ground such as hills, wooded and marshy areas to perform field inspections at project construction sites. Must be capable of climbing/crouching in confined areas as this position requires the ability to enter permitted confined spaces. Per safety requirements, confined spaces may not be entered by persons who weigh 310 pounds or more. Visual acuity is required to read data on computer monitor, incumbent must be able to operate keyboard driven equipment and to use other automated technology to input, access and retrieve information such as schematic drawings. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
