Job Summary:
The Cattle Foreman will be tasked with oversight of receiving and shipping of cattle, processing, feeding programs, feeding, feed ingredient inventory, animal health and nutrition, equipment needs, maintenance, people resources, farm management, waste management, and all other operations.
- Oversight of daily operations of the feedlot including feeding, processing, and care of cattle
- Work closely with General Manager to ensure cattle well-being, nutrition, and environmental needs are being met
- Perform and manage fencing, welding, cleaning, and construction to keep all facilities in optimum working condition.
- Assist in coordinating repairs, maintenance schedules, and preventive maintenance of all farm equipment.
- Operate vehicles and farm equipment including but not limited to pickup trucks, feed trucks, feed mixers, livestock trailers, front-end loaders, tractors, sprayers, shredders, and skid-steers
- Utilize a horse to ride through assigned pens and identify sick animals by observing outward signs of distress; segregates sick cattle for treatment by driving them to nearest hospital pen
- Ensure accurate feed delivery by monitoring feed bunks and assessing feed distribution, quantity, type, and timeliness of delivery.
- Maintain cattle feeding records by compiling, entering, and analyzing information.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Prior knowledge and experience in one or more of cattle production segments (cow-calf, stocker, cattle feeding) is preferred
- Ability to ride a horse in a safe manner.
- Strong work ethic and self-starter mentality
- Other knowledge or related agriculture experience that demonstrates knowledge of cattle production and desire to work in the cattle feeding industry will be considered
- Ability to work beyond normal business hours and/or on weekends
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma preferred
- Previous experience in beef cattle and/or beef feedlot operations
- Valid driver's license
Physical Requirements:
- Will work with animals that may bite and kick, and operate heavy machinery and equipment
- Working in inclement weather
- Ability to lift, carry or otherwise move items weighing up to 80 pounds
