The RN Plus Cath Lab Transition Program provides a comprehensive blended program that bridges the nursing practice gap for experienced RNs transitioning into the Cath Lab specialty.
Program Start Date: June 3, 2024
Program Overview:
Interactive classroom discussions, case studies, handson skills training, and simulations with experienced RN instructors
Unitbased clinical preceptorship
Attendance is imperative and all days are required to remain in the program. No days can be missed during the first few weeks on training.

Curriculum-based on evidence-based practice, National Standards and HCA Healthcare Clinical Standards of Excellence
12-Lead ECG Interpretation
AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support for the Experienced Provider in the Procedural Specialty
Electronic Documentation at the assigned hospital Cardiac Cath Lab
Cardiovascular Pharmacology
TeamSTEPPS Communication Training for Patient Safety
Understanding the use of Cardiac Cath Lab Catheters and Wires in the Circulating RN Role
Pre Procedural, Intra Procedural, and Post Procedural Care
Hands-on Cardiac Cath Lab RN Skills Training, that includes but not limited to:
IABP
Impella Device
Loop Recorders
Temporary Pacemakers / ICD's
Interventional Diagnostic Tools: IVUS, Rotapro, FFR, OCT
Sterile Procedure
Radiation Safety
Hemodynamic monitoring
Ventilator management/troubleshooting
Job Requirements
Experience
* 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse (RN)
* Cardiac nursing or critical care experience - preferred
Education
* Associate's degree in Nursing (ADN)
Licenses and Certifications
* Current State of Texas Registered Nurse (RN) license or Compact Registered Nursing License. If Compact License, Texas license must be obtained within 90 days of hire
* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification per St. David's Healthcare policy
* Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification per St. David's Healthcare policy

This 300+ bed facility features a 24-hour emergency department, the regions largest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and the internationally-renowned Texas Cardiac Arrhythmia Institute and St. Davids Neuroscience & Spine Institute. The full scope of services provided at St. Davids Medical Center includes cancer care, heart and vascular care, imaging services, joint replacement and orthopedics, womens services, complex surgical services, and a Bariatric Surgery Center. The facility is home to a 60+ bed rehabilitation hospital providing both inpatient and outpatient comprehensive care.
