POSITION SUMMARY
Addresses the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of patient care related to the Cardiac Cath Lab environment. Provides direct patient care during Cardiac and Vascular procedures. Monitors and administers conscience sedation. Communicates with the physician continuously and as needed about patient condition. Cath Lab RN's are cross trained to Cardiac Short Stay Department.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Minimum of two years' experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab or three to five years' experience in a Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION
Current BLS and ACLS.
Current Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Texas.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Locate supplies in procedure room for all cardiac and vascular cases.
- Open all sterile supplies needed during procedure.
- In acute situations, set-ups equipment for use during procedure.
- Defibrillator and temporary pacemaker for lethal arrhythmias and cardioversions.
- Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump for pump assistance.
- Under physician direction sets parameters of intra-aortic balloon pump and temporary pacemaker.
- In acute situations, sets up equipment tray and prepares patient for Para cardiocentesis procedure.
- Draws measurement using Intravascular Ultrasound.
- Runs AVOX to obtain Arterial and Venous samples.
- Operates Hemocron to obtain ACT lab values.
- Safely administrates medications and contrast parenteral fluids. Calculates drips as necessary.
- Administers conscious sedation medications which entails frequent vital monitoring and management of airway.
- Continually performs patient assessment throughout procedure.
- Performs removal of arterial and venous sheaths. Monitors patient after sheath removal.
- Completes pre-op checklist before transporting patient to Cath Lab.
- Provides hemodynamic monitoring, notifies physician of any hemodynamic changes and documents events during case.
- Responsible for care of patient until report given to accepting RN in another unit.
- Restocks procedural room at end of each working day.
- Explains procedure to patient; gives verbal assurance.
- Provides patient/family education pre and post procedure including pain management. Other duties as assigned.
