Job Overview
The Littleton Group is looking for a Casualty Adjuster who will be responsible for investigating and evaluating losses while developing a plan of action to bring claims to a proper resolution in a timely manner while meeting the guidelines and needs of the client. Reporting to the Branch Manager, you will determine the extent of insurance coverage and liability on each filed claim.
To be successful in this role, you must have prior liability, bodily injury, physical damage, as well as heavy equipment claims experience with the ability to be flexible in a fast-paced environment. You need to have a solid understanding of how to determine insurance coverage and liability, investigate claims, negotiate settlements, and respond to clients in a timely and professional manner. You must have excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong attention to detail skills to ensure accuracy in all reporting. This position is a full-time, home-based position requiring you to be in El Paso, Texas, or the surrounding area.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Determine extent of insurance coverage and liability on each filed claim
- Investigate claims to include interviewing claimants, insureds, and witnesses; inspect insured and claimant property, etc.
- Obtain necessary information from employer, hospital, police, physician, etc. to conduct a full evaluation of claim
- Utilize appropriate vendors
- Present thorough and accurate reports including photographs, written or recorded statements to clients and excess carriers on claim investigations
- Determine amount of claim payout
- Negotiate settlements for resolution with claimants and their attorneys while controlling litigation activities and costs based on account requirements
- Work with attorneys and expert witnesses to defend insurer’s position if claimant contests claim outcome
- Effectively address and maintain incoming documents in a consistent and timely manner
- Attend meetings, mediations, conferences, workshops, or training sessions; review written material to maintain current knowledge on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas
- Maintain and meet state specific licensing requirements
- Respond to client questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner
- Travel may be required for claim or scene investigations as necessary
- Use standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks
- Use discretion when handling confidential information
- Other duties as assigned
Experience and Qualifications
Required
- 5+ years of experience handling liability and physical damage claims
- Prior experience conducting investigations in multi-party situations
- Texas Adjuster License
- Thorough knowledge of current principles and practices associated with claims investigations, adjustment, and related practices
- Extensive knowledge of medical and legal terminology with a thorough understanding of legal principles/litigation management
- Capable of understanding multi-state laws and regulations to assist other offices, as necessary
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent work experience

- Superior written and verbal communication skills in working with diverse audiences
- Excellent time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy while meeting time-sensitive deadlines
- Able to prepare and present accurate, reliable, and factual reports with recommendations to appropriate parties
- Able to be flexible in a fast-paced environment as well as understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions
- Willing and able to learn quickly while utilizing newly acquired skills due to rapidly changing information and/or technology
- Exhibit a comfort level working with key people at all levels within an organization

Position Type, Work Environment and Physical Demands
This is a 100% commission, home-based, full-time, exempt position that predominantly operates remotely from a professional home-based office environment routinely using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, photocopiers, and scanners and requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk while working on a computer. While performing the duties of this job, the individual will be required to regularly hear and talk. This is a largely sedentary role requiring the ability to sit at a desk, reach outward, use a phone, have use of fingers to operate office equipment such as a keyboard, mouse, phone, printer, copier, and to reach above the head, bend, or stand as necessary.
