Title: International Exchange Student Coordinator

Hiring Unit: Center for Global Education and Exchange

Position: ***Casual Hire***

Location: UH Hilo

Salary: $23.67 /hour

Full time/Part time: Part-time, no more than 19 hours/week

Temporary/Permanent: Temporary

Other Conditions: Casual Hire temporary appointment is expected to begin January 16, 2024 or soon thereafter. Not to exceed 89 days. Continuation is dependent on satisfactory performance, program needs and availability of funding.

Duties:

  1. Manage Fall 2024 application process for incoming International Exchange Students.
  2. Manage communication with Fall 2024 International Exchange applicants and their home universities.
  3. Communicate effectively with current International Exchange Students regarding university activities, pertinent university policies, registration information, and other topics relevant to the Exchange Student experience.
  4. Communicate effectively with international partner universities and respond to their requests for information about application process, exchange quotas, and agreements.
  5. Work collaboratively with colleges and units within academic affairs, student affairs, and administrative affairs, and student groups in the successful completion of assigned duties.
  6. Correspond in writing and orally with students, faculty, and other university units, and external constituencies to promote and develop international student exchange at UH-Hilo.
  7. Commitment to establishing partnerships with university faculty/staff and community members and organizations to promote the international student exchange experience.
  8. Oversee program relations/collaboration with identified campus partners and other stakeholders for special projects relating to the international student exchange experience.
  9. Plan and execute a minimum of three (3) programming initiatives for International Exchange Students during the Spring 2024 semester.
  10. Work effectively with other staff and student employees at the Center for Global Education and Exchange and assist in the supervision of student employee activities as they relate to the international student exchange experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in any field and at least one (1) year professional experience in the education field.
  • Experience as a study abroad student for one (1) or two (2) semesters with an international university partner.
  • Demonstrated understanding of study abroad process including completion of applications, visa processing, and orientation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with students from other countries.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and ability to contribute as an effective member of the Center for Global Education and Exchange and the Division of Student Affairs.
  • Demonstrated ability utilizing Microsoft Office and Google software.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in working or volunteering in a community college or university study abroad office.
  • Proficiency in a second language.
  • Experience living outside the United States for a minimum of one year.
  • Experience with either participating in or coordinating a National Student Exchange program.
