Cashier - Am

St. Norbert College, a nationally-ranked, private, Catholic, liberal arts college is seeking a Cashier for Ruth's Marketplace. The Cashier provides excellent customer service and radical hospitality while reconciling entrance payment into Ruth's Marketplace. This position is responsible for supporting the overall operation of the Dining Services unit, including clerical tasks such as data entry.
This position generally works Monday - Friday from 6:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and every 5th weekend. The starting pay is $16.60 per hour.

Specific responsibilities:

Provide clerical support for service managers including answering phones, data entry, filing and online service requests. Enter daily customer counts and update electronic and posted menu signs.  Assist with data entry for menu service layouts, standards of work, closing duty lists, equipment and repair logs. - 25%

Monitor meal plan transactions at point of sale. Reconcile multiple payment forms including cash sales, credit card, service order contracts, and One Card meal plan transactions. Maintain daily cash bag balances and receipts. - 25%

Communicate effectively with all internal and external customers. Answer questions and responds to feedback in a courteous and professional manner. Communicate with staff on all Event Management System service order updates and guest contracts.  Educate and enforce meal plan policies while maintaining the sacred dignity of all guests. - 20%

Assist with set up and clean up, and stocking and replenishing food, equipment and dinnerware during shifts. Clean and sanitize all work areas, equipment and supplies. - 15%

Serve as the shift supervisor overseeing service of meal plan and student staff in Marketplace on scheduled weekends. - 10%

Perform additional duties as assigned and attend College required training. Regular attendance is required. Work in a manner that is aware of personal safety and the safety of others and observes safety, health and sanitation codes, regulations, or practices required by the College or governmental authority.

• 10-12 Student Workers

Required Minimum Qualifications:
Education -

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience and Credentials -

• 1-2 years of experience in the institutional or retail food service industry.

• 3-4 years experience with data entry and  customer service

• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse campus environment or commitment to do so as an employee of St. Norbert College.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities -

• Ability to work in a fast paced environment.

• Ability to interact professionally with coworkers and customers.

• Ability to talk politely and resolve customer service issues.

• Ability to multitask, meet specific deadlines, and prioritize tasks and assignments.

• Skilled in basic math computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

• Knowledge of how to use a cash register and ability to learn upgrades as needed.

• Ability to concentrate and focus in a noisy environment.

• Ability to exercise good judgement and decisions in an expeditious manner.

• Skilled at setting a good example for others. 

• Computer experience in Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Calendar, & Gmail preferred.

Computer, printer/copier, POS equipment, telephone, food service equipment such as deep fryers, food holding wells, heated cabinets, dish machine.

• Position will have sedentary work while at the register and will also be required to move throughout the dining room occasionally to stock equipment and clean areas.  Position lifts, carries, pushes, and pulls no more than 25 lbs. occasionally.
