Established in 1970, SVCC is one of the 23 colleges in the Virginia Community College System. The Christanna Campus near Alberta and the John H. Daniel Campus near Keysville serve ten counties and one city - the largest community college service region in the state. In 1985, SVCC opened the Southside Virginia Education Center. The college is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate degrees. SVCC is dedicated to the belief that all citizens should be given an opportunity to acquire an educational foundation which develops and extends their skills and knowledge. The college's goal is to provide diverse instructional programs ranging from developmental studies to associate degree curricula in academic, technical, and lifelong education. SVCC is located in a rural setting of rolling hills, pine and hardwood forests, and farmland. There is easy access to nearby metropolitan Richmond, Virginia, the state's capital, as well as Raleigh, North Carolina, and Lynchburg, Virginia. The area is famous for its two lakes, Gaston and Kerr, and a multitude of state and national parks which offer recreational opportunities such as fishing, boating, skiing, jet-skiing, hiking, horseback riding, picnics, and relaxation. The area also offers sports arenas for baseball, softball, soccer and beautiful golf courses. There are cultural activities including various theaters and arts councils offering concerts, plays, and live entertainment, and there are many local festivals held throughout the year.
Southside Virginia Community College is seeking a candidate for the position of Cashier & Admissions Specialist on the John H. Daniel Campus in Keysville, VA. This position will support both Cashiering and Admissions.
Organizational Objective:
To accurately account for the College's funds received in a timely manner while providing exceptional service to a diverse student, staff and community population; to verify and process student data/enrollment and to serve as administrative support to the Admissions and Records Office, providing data management processing of information for auto program placements and applications received.
Core Responsibilities include:
  • Serve as campus cashier to collect state, local and federal funds over the counter, in mail and/or electronically in an accurate and timely manner while providing excellent customer service; responsible for receipting and depositing all monies, state and local, received
  • Record payments on student and third-party accounts daily as received
  • Provide local funds account support to include account coding, keying and printing checks
  • Perform due diligence and management of unclaimed checks issued from state and local funds
  • Respond to all questions and concerns regarding student accounts in a clear, accurate and timely manner
  • Serve as an Admissions Specialist to offer accurate and timely processing of student records and assistance to faculty, staff, and administrators as needed
  • Provide prompt, courteous, efficient service in guiding prospective students through the admissions process from initial inquiry through enrollment

  • Intermediate computer skills to include Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a team
  • Experience working with racially, ethnically, economically, and age-diverse individuals
  • Demonstrated exceptional experience in cashiering and customer service
  • Experience working with spreadsheets
  • Ability to handle confidential information, use professional discretion, and exercise ethical conduct

Additional Considerations
  • Previous experience working with PeopleSoft or similar student registration software program
  • Working knowledge of basic accounting principles
  • Previous accounting experience
  • Relevant experience in higher education or with a Virginia state agency
