Job Overview
The Carpenter provides a direct service to the department to ensure a comfortable, safe and clean environment in which the University can live, learn and work. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Maintain all structures and related components
  • Perform all standard carpentry work including, roughing, framing and finishing; cabinet making, roof repairs, concrete work, glazing, and minor locksmith work
  • Perform journey level maintenance and repairs in accordance with industry/trade practices
  • Perform assignments in response to requests for service, scheduled preventive maintenance inspections, and unscheduled or special projects
  • Use all standard tools, equipment, materials and supplies of the trade
  • Observe all safety rules, regulations and precautions in performing duties

Work Interactions
The Carpenter reports directly to the Building and Structures Supervisor, along with two other carpenters, two roofer/sheet metal workers, three locksmiths and one trade helper.
As well, they work with tradesmen of other areas within the department to complete assigned tasks as necessary.
Their work performed provides a direct service to the department to ensure a comfortable, safe and clean environment in which the University can live, learn and work.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Completion of apprenticeship or equivalent training in the carpentry trade
