Certified Nursing Assistant -ADULT DAY HEALTH PROGRAM JOB DESCRIPTION

Category: This is a nonexempt position.

Program Summary: CORA’S Intergenerational Center (CORA’S IGC) is an adult day health and intergenerational program that operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. CORA’S IGC provides an organized program of services during the day in a community group setting for the purpose of supporting adult’s personal independence, promoting their social, physical, and emotional well-being. In addition, as an adult day health program, CORA’S IGC provides a structured program of activities and services during the day for the aging, disabled and handicapped adults inclusive of daily nursing supervision. CORA’S IGC staff is trained and prepared to provide care for participants who may be experiencing the effects of Alzheimer, Dementia, Parkinson’s Disease, Developmental Disabilities and Strokes.

In addition, CORA’S IGC has a robust intergenerational component in partnership with the Marizetta Kerry Child Development Center co-located at 3301 Beatties Ford Road. Intergenerational programming has been shown to provide benefits for both adults and children. Adults feel valued as they are able to share their knowledge and experience with young people. Children learn empathy when they are able to visit and interact with elders. At CORA’S IGC, we bring small groups of children to the adult day health wing to read, listen to music, dance or talk, etc. with our adult participants. We refer to the adult participants as “neighbors” to introduce the children to the concept of community.

The CAN performs duties as necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the Adult Day Health Program, works cooperatively with the Registered Nurse (RN) and program staff to maintain excellent standards of client care and thorough assigned records. The CNA works closely with the RN, the Program Director in carrying out assigned duties. This position reports directly to the Day Room Supervisor (DRS) and the Program Director of Adult Day Health. This is a full time or part time position.

RESPONSIBILITIES SHALL INCLUDE:

  • Maintains confidentiality of participant/staff health and related information.
  • Performs tasks within the scope of North Carolina recognized practice for CNA and accountable to the RN for skill validation:
  • May be asked to assist RN with following but not all inclusive:
  • Vital signs assessments, monthly
  • Foot and physical mobility assessments, yearly
  • Updated annual physicals, yearly
  • Care Plan Reviews
  • Care Plan/Caregiver reviews
  • Assists with specialized examinations and treatments under the authority of the RN.
  • Assists with medication administration under the authority of the RN.
  • Assists with toileting and personal care of clients.
  • Leads recreational activities as assigned.
  • Assists with food service, including feeding, if necessary.
  • Monitors participants for safety, status changes, debilitation needs and recommends/intervenes as appropriate.
  • Files appropriate papers into participant folders.
  • Participate in ongoing informal and formal assessments of the participant and brings all observations of change to the RN, DRS, and/or Director.
  • Performs other duties as requested or assigned by the RN, DRS and/or Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The CNA should be able to provide proof of CNA Certification. A basic understanding of medical terms and procedures is required.

This position must meet the following criteria:

a. be at least 18 years of age.

b 1 year related experience in caring for impaired adults.

c. present a written medical statement, completed within the prior 12 months by a physician, nurse practitioner or physician's assistant, certifying that the employee has no illness or health condition that would pose a health risk to others and that the employee can perform the duties assigned in the job.

d. provide at least three reference letters or the names of individuals with whom a reference interview can be conducted, including at least one former employer. The individuals providing reference information shall have knowledge of the applicant program director's background and qualifications.

Preferred but not required qualifications:

e. Experience with Dementia, Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s patients.

f. 2 years of supervisory experience.

TRAINING:

Current certification in CPR and First Aid is required. A current physical is required.

Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour
