Department Description
The Office of Career and Professional Development (CPD) delivers a comprehensive approach to Professional Development. HPU CPD serves as a resource to students for resume, LinkedIn and cover letter development, networking and mock interviews. Through career counseling to help students in determining their major/career path, to assisting in the internship and job search, HPU CPD is a resource for students from freshman year to their years as an alumni. HPU CPD works to develop partnerships with employers to establish internship and full-time job opportunities. Employers are engaged through an online career services platform as well as through various events hosted by the office.
Job Description
Peer Career Advisor (PCA) Team Lead will serve as an extension of the professional staff by providing career guidance to students and marketing the office's events, programs, and services to the HPU community. PCA Team Lead complete tasks in three main functions: aiding in the oversight, training, support and leadership of PCA's under the guidance of the CPD Professional Staff Supervisor, career advising and marketing. The Team Lead will assist students with resume, cover letter reviews, internship searches, LinkedIn usage and networking strategies during drop-in hours. Additionally, the Team Lead PCA will assist with PCAs by marketing the office's services and events to faculty, students, and parents through social media outreach and in-person communication. They promote the office to prospective students and parents during admissions events. As a student employee you will advise and collaborate with fellow students and will gain strong leadership, verbal and written communication skills. You will develop an ability to think analytically and creatively when marketing C&PD services to the HPU community.
Job Location/ Hours Required
The candidate will perform most/all job duties in Cottrell Hall. Hours may vary depending on the job requirements; however, the total number of hours a student employee may work per week is 20 hours. This position requires up to (20) hours per week.
Responsibilities:
  • Serve as Team Lead of the PCA's by aiding in the training, support, and quality control of PCA operations and activities.
  • Aid in support of research and data analysis, providing reports on CPD walk-in activities.
  • Advise students about informational interviewing, job shadowing, LinkedIn, researching internships and/or job opportunities, networking, cover letters and resumes during drop-in hours
  • Speak to current and prospective students and parents at C&PD and campus events such as Admissions Open Houses, Orientation, Student Support Services Fairs, and Career Expos
  • Assist C&PD with developing marketing strategies to promote events and services
  • Occasionally present or co-present in classes or to campus organizations about C&PD office and career-related topics, providing a student's perspective
  • Complete and present project proposal to recommend improvements to C&PD
  • Respond to communication from students, C&PD staff, and fellow CPAs promptly
  • Attend mandatory training at the beginning of each semester; attend monthly meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
Graduate student who has completed at least one internship and has an interest in assisting students with career questions. You must be able to work all or a combination of the times below:
  • Monday-Wednesday - 11:00 - 6:00 PM
  • Thursday-Friday 11:00 - 4:00 PM

  • Able to work 4-10 hours per week
