Job DescriptionAnimal Control Officers are responsible for monitoring and ensuring animals are in good health with clean, disinfected, and disease-free cages; and ensure they are properly fed, watered, and medicated. Animal Control Officers who progress to be assigned Field Operations will be responsible for responding to citizen complaints and working with local authorities with regards to stray, vicious, sick, injured, and diseased animals.
Essential Duties
  • Assisting the public with touring the shelter for lost and adoptable animals
  • Assisting field officers with unloading, checking in, and relocating animals
  • Assisting with intake
  • Assisting with investigating cruelty and abandonment
  • Working with senior officers to gather information used to prosecute violators
  • Assisting with investigating reported bite cases
  • Assisting with maintaining records including intakes and adoptions, medical records, and animals held for court cases
  • Assisting with maintaining logs regarding diseases, medications, and treatments
  • Assisting in conducting rabies quarantine checks and verifying quarantine requirements
  • Assisting in the decapitation, preparation, and transportation of specimens
  • Assisting in euthanizing animals and other functions in the euthanasia laboratory
Public Speaking Duties
  • Assisting with outreach or adoption events
Other Job Requirements/Information
  • This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing.
  • This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.

  • Grade A12(3)
  • $34,789 - $39,573
Animal Control Officer II
  • Grade B21(3)
  • $41,062 - $47,222
Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.
Minimum Qualifications
Animal Control Officer I
  • High school diploma, or GED
  • Valid driver's license
  • Pre-exposure Rabies vaccine or current titer completed within 6 months of employment
Animal Control Officer II
  • High school diploma, or GED
  • One year of Animal Control experience
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
  • Valid driver's license
  • Euthanasia training
  • Asp Baton Certificate
  • Current Rabies Titer
  • Defensive Driving Certificate
  • Basic Chemical Capture training
  • Crematory training
