Job Title:Career Advisor/Trainer
Compensation: $55k Annual Salary with benefits
Location: Coalinga, CA (With expected travel to Mendota, CA)
Purpose: America Works of California, Inc. (AWCA) is seeking a self-motivated and dynamic individual to develop job opportunities and provide career coaching for low-income and underserved youth in the Fresno County area as a Sales Representative/Trainer. Candidates with bi-lingual or multi-lingual capabilities, especially Spanish and Hmong, are encouraged to apply.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide career coaching, and job coaching, including labor market trends to job seekers, mock interview prep, resume development, coordinating job skills training, as outlined in participant employment plan (PLAN)
- Conduct job readiness assessments with youth participants
- Provide job readiness skills training (soft skills workshops) in areas of resume preparation, interviewing and job search techniques
- Identify and outreach employers that are willing to work in conjunction with AWCA to help youth participants find jobs in a variety of in-demand fields
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with current employer partners, including conducting on-site visits (when safe to do so) frequently to ensure quality of service and generate additional job orders
- Monitor and track job placement activities on a regular basis to ensure accurate and timely reporting of progress as required
- Develop and coordinate linkages with job skills training resources in high-demand fields
- Generate leads and obtain referrals from current employer partners in a Work Experience for Youth
- Arrange interviews with employers and working with participants on job retention issues
- Meet regularly with program participants, aiding their job search by scheduling interviews, referring job leads and community services to ensure participant success
- Meet weekly, quarterly, and annual work experience, educational and job placement numbers
- Effectively manage a daily schedule of site visits, appointments, and overall territory management
- Observe, evaluate, and case note youth participant performance.
- Model professionalism and inclusiveness, cultivate a safe environment for career development, and motivated clients to find full-time employment
Requirements
Final candidate must be able to successfully complete and pass a federal background check (Social Security Administration Suitability Process)
Desired Qualifications
- Mandatory High School Diploma
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education and experience (four years) in employment placement and vocational counseling activities
- Excellent negotiating, customer service, and cold calling skills
- Passion for working with special and at-risk populations, including public assistance recipients, justice-involved individuals, persons with mental and/or physical disabilities, and individuals experiencing homelessness preferred
- Bilingual speakers, especially Spanish and Hmong speakers, highly encouraged to apply
- Strong communication skills, professional demeanor, sound judgment, and strong organizational skills
- Understanding of workforce development, employment services, and adult education a definite plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, CRMs (i.e. Salesforce), and video call software preferred
