Position: Per Diem Cardiovascular-Interventional Technologist - Shift

Job Description

 Under general supervision performs interventional radiographic and cardiac procedures at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed independent practitioner.

 DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: 

The Cardiovascular/Interventional Technologist is an advanced level special procedures radiologic technologist who produces specialized cardiovascular and interventional radiographic images for evaluation by cardiovascular and neurovascular professionals.

 Essential Functions:

  • Prepares the procedure room, equipment, and patients for sterile interventional/cardiac procedures.
  • Corroborates patient's clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed independent practitioner.
  • Positions patients on procedure table and drapes sterile sheets over them.
  • Preparing the sterile tray by positioning instruments, selecting the appropriate procedure supplies and other equipment for the specific procedure.
  • Assists licensed independent practitioners with fluoroscopic, specialized interventional, cardiac and neuro-radiography procedures by scrubbing in during the procedure.
  • Assists in necessary record-keeping and clerical work; and serves as a scrub assistant during procedures.
  • Identifies, prepares and/or administers medications as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
  • Participates in physiologic monitoring of patients.
  • Performs manual and mechanical hemostasis, including the use of closure devices, as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
  • Performs all computer imaging acquisition, sequencing, and formatting functions necessary to ensure that the procedure is correctly and diagnostically executed in a minimal amount of time.
  • Performs all serial film imaging as requested by the physician.

  • Determines radiographic technique exposure factors.
  • Assists and maintains intra-arterial access as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.
  • Maintains equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Demonstrates clinical knowledge and skill in the care of the newborn, infant, toddler, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient ranging up to 100+ years of age.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

 Employment Standards:

 Graduation from an accredited two-year program in Radiologic Technology approved by the Joint Review Committee on Education. Six (6) months experience as a Radiologic Technologist performing Cardiovascular and/or Interventional Technologist (CIT) functions. 
                                                                           AND
Must possess and maintain all of the following clean and clear certifications/permits:

  • Radiologic Technologist certification issued by the State of California, Department of Public Health.
  • Radiologic Technologist Fluoroscopy permit issued by the State of California, Department of Health Services
  • Registered Technologist by the American Registry of Radiological Technologist
    (ARRT)
  • Possession and maintenance of a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card.  Appointees not possessing the BLS card must successfully complete appropriate training and qualify for the BLS card within sixty (60) days of appointment or employment will be terminated.


Knowledge of: modern radiology equipment and techniques; human anatomy and physiology; occupational and safety precautions for radiologic work; acute care hospital procedures; effective verbal and written communications and computer skills.
Ability to: maintain a high degree of accuracy in radiographic positioning and exposure technique; administer emergency first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation; maintain records and files; follow instructions; deal tactfully and professionally with patients, physicians and staff; maintain the strictest levels of confidentiality; administer and document activities related to medications accordance with State and Federal regulations or lawful institutional policy.
 

SUPPLEMENTAL:

  • Employees must maintain all health requirements designated by Kern Medical;
  • Depending on assignment incumbents may be required to possess and maintain specific certificates of competency as a condition of employment;
  • A background check may be required for this classification;

 

All Kern Medical employees are designated “Disaster Service Workers”. In the event of a disaster or civil disorder, all Kern Medical employees are to remain at work or to report to work in a safe and practicable manner.
