POSITION SUMMARY
Provides direct patient in Cardiothoracic Surgery; instructs medical students and residents; participates in conferences, conducts, and develops research grants and proposals
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Work with the healthcare team to provide patients with medical care services within the standard of care for patients.
- Round with the team, including APPs, Residents, Medical students and Fellows.
- Order laboratory and radiology tests and refer patients to specialists when appropriate and called for.
- Analyze reports, test results, medical records and examinations to diagnose condition of patients and propose treatment options.
- Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens to treat identified and documented medical conditions.
- Discuss potential side effects of medication/treatment with patients and ensure that all allergy information is up-to-date before prescribing medication/treatment.
- Provide advice to patients for lifestyle and diet changes that may improve their health or help to treat the health issue they are experiencing.
- Adhere to departmental policies, procedures and objectives, ongoing quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all federal and state health information privacy laws.
- Record complete, timely and legible medical records.
- Participate in the teaching programs withing the department, the College of Medicine, and the University.
- Conduct independent research in line with the goals of the department including maintaining a strong record of accomplishments and the ability to secure external funding that will provide salary support as Principal Investigator or Co- Principal Investigator and support research efforts and projects. Publish in peer-reviewed literature as first or co-author.
- Participate in service assignments of importance to the department the College of Medicine, and the University
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Education:
- MD or equivalent required
- Successful completion of a CT Surgery fellowship
- License and/or Certification:
- Current licensure in the State of Ohio and DEA required, prior to beginning the position
- Board certified or board eligible in Thoracic Surgery
- Skills:
- Ability to successfully teach and mentor medical students, residents and fellows.
- Experience in collaborating with specialists to explore patient health conditions and diagnose health issues.
- Experience in working as a team of healthcare professionals and collaborating with them to ensure positive, effective patient experiences with our organization.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
