The primary site of inpatient care services is at the University of Toledo Medical Center, but many of our physicians’ practice at hospitals and medical offices throughout the region.

POSITION SUMMARY

Provides direct patient in Cardiothoracic Surgery; instructs medical students and residents; participates in conferences, conducts, and develops research grants and proposals

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Work with the healthcare team to provide patients with medical care services within the standard of care for patients.
  • Round with the team, including APPs, Residents, Medical students and Fellows.
  • Order laboratory and radiology tests and refer patients to specialists when appropriate and called for.
  • Analyze reports, test results, medical records and examinations to diagnose condition of patients and propose treatment options.
  • Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens to treat identified and documented medical conditions.
  • Discuss potential side effects of medication/treatment with patients and ensure that all allergy information is up-to-date before prescribing medication/treatment.
  • Provide advice to patients for lifestyle and diet changes that may improve their health or help to treat the health issue they are experiencing.
  • Adhere to departmental policies, procedures and objectives, ongoing quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all federal and state health information privacy laws.
  • Record complete, timely and legible medical records.
  • Participate in the teaching programs withing the department, the College of Medicine, and the University.
  • Conduct independent research in line with the goals of the department including maintaining a strong record of accomplishments and the ability to secure external funding that will provide salary support as Principal Investigator or Co- Principal Investigator and support research efforts and projects. Publish in peer-reviewed literature as first or co-author.
  • Participate in service assignments of importance to the department the College of Medicine, and the University

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education:
    • MD or equivalent required
    • Successful completion of a CT Surgery fellowship
  • License and/or Certification:
    • Current licensure in the State of Ohio and DEA required, prior to beginning the position
    • Board certified or board eligible in Thoracic Surgery
  • Skills:
    • Ability to successfully teach and mentor medical students, residents and fellows.
    • Experience in collaborating with specialists to explore patient health conditions and diagnose health issues.
    • Experience in working as a team of healthcare professionals and collaborating with them to ensure positive, effective patient experiences with our organization.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
