Reports To: Eric Wei, Carbon Credit Program Director, President of Carbon4SafeWater 

Department: Collective Action  

Work Hours: Monday– Friday, 40 hours/week, additional hours as required

Global Water Center (GWC) is a forward-thinking nonprofit organization based in Charleston, South Carolina. GWC’s unique contribution to the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) sector is to work to end the global water crisis through a four-pronged Strategy – Incentivize Collaboration among all organizations working in the WASH sector, Incentivize those organizations to comply with Performance and Quality Standards that optimize the probability that their projects will be sustainable, provide Training and Support services that enable the organizations to meet the standards, and provide Monitoring, Evaluation, and Response services that ensure projects continue working as designed. 

 We specialize in connecting resources, technology, and a comprehensive strategy of collaboration.  We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Carbon Credit Associate to join our dynamic team and drive our carbon financing practice.  

The Associate is responsible for research and implementation of Global Water Center’s Carbon Credits Consulting and/or Auditing Program.

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY? 

Position Overview: We are looking for a passionate and entrepreneurial associate to provide Carbon Credit consulting services for project implementers.  This role plays a critical part in executing our business strategy, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and advising the implementation partners to leverage carbon offset and financing. 


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Develop technical expertise of the voluntary Carbon Credit processes and methodologies under Clean Development Mechanism, Gold Standard, and Verra, among others. 
  • Conduct in-depth research to identify market trends, the main players, and technical competencies. 
  • Provide consulting support for client deliverables, such as project registration, management, Monitoring, Report, and Verification (MRV). 
  • Design and develop procedures, best practices, and training for internal and client use. 
  • Support the evaluation and quantification of Carbon Credit opportunities, including financial, emission, and risk assessment. 
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including regulators, partners, verification bodies, vendors, and industry partners, to ensure compliance and market trends. 
  • Support senior leadership on Carbon Credit strategies and potential revenue streams. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship and/or US Passport 
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, natural science, sustainability, or similar quantitative field; an MBA or other advanced degree preferred. 
  • Minimum of 3 years work experience in a related role. 
  • Experience with project-level work, preferably in WASH sector, especially monitoring, evaluation, and response. Other sectors, such as forestation, Blue Carbon, renewables, carbon management, are also desirable. 
  • Experience with preparation of investment committee memo and similar reports (e.g. due diligence) including financial analysis and projections. 
  • General familiarity and some working experience with a) standards such as Verra and Gold Standard and b) Validation & Verification Body of such standards 
  • Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret and manipulate data. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Proficiency in data management tools, accounting principles, and emission calculation methodologies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:   

  • Ability to safely lift a minimum of 35 lbs.  
  • Ability to sit for extended periods, stand, walk, type, carry, kneel, ascend, and descend stairs, and bend.   
  • Ability to work primarily indoors with frequent work outdoors in multiple types of weather / environmental conditions.  
  • Ability to work outside the normal Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm workweek if needed.  
  • Ability to travel as needed.
