CARBIDE TOOL AND DIE MAKER

JOB SUMMARY:

The Carbide Tool and Die Maker will analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, set up and operate machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools. Duties may include studying blueprints, conducting research and analysis, analyzing parts, and ensuring proper measurements are taken to ensure products meet customer expectations and company standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Builds, maintains, and repairs various size carbide dies (progressive dies) to produce quality aerospace fasteners in a timely manner.
• Plans the sequence of operations to fabricate and assemble all types of dies from tool design or by reverse engineering (inspection records, sketches, and measurement data).
• Uses standard problem solving and troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve issues.
• Set-ups and operates a variety of machines such as lathes, surface grinders for the fabrication of tools AND DIEs.
• Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.
• Able to recognize cosmetic non-conformances based on Company specifications such as; burrs, galling, cracked edges, slug marks, dimensional changes in production parts and initiate action to repair the die.
• Plan and perform close tolerance setups with little or no assistance.
• Use scales, micrometers, dial indicators and fixed gages to check and gage work.
• Adapt or modify tooling to meet gage work.
• Lubricate, adjust, or repair equipment to ensure proper production.
• Review the work and assist other operators as necessary to ensure proper work instructions and quality procedures are being followed.
• Work with engineering and/or maintenance to resolve specific machine, tooling, setup problems that may arise.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
