The Cancer Registrar performs case-finding, accessioning, abstracting and follow-up procedures on all patients diagnosed and/or treated at Scripps Health from the time of first admission for cancer until the patient expires in accordance with established guidelines of the ACOS and CCR. Coordinates Tumor Board and Cancer Committee meetings. Assists with special studies, annual reports, accreditation activities, and quality control studies.
This is a full-time, benefitted position located in San Diego.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience/Specialized Skills:
- At least six months experience as a Cancer registrar in an acute care setting.
- Ability to code and stage new cancer cases according to established guidelines by the California Cancer Registry (CCR) and the American College of Surgeons (ACOS).
- Uses ICD-0 coding; Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER); Extent of Disease (EOD); and AJCC (TNM) staging principles with the ability to abstract this information into a computerized dat base.
- Good communication and word processing skills are needed.
- High school education and specialized courses in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and cancer disease process.
- Certified Cancer Registrar (C.T.R.) or C.T.R. eligible.
- Maintains required CEUs for certification.
