Job Title: Campus Security Supervisor

Salary Range: $17.59 - $21.39

Reports to: Director of Operations

Please note that this position is 183 days with 6 paid holidays, paid sick leave and paid flexible personal leave (3 days per year). The McMinnville School District provides generous personal and family benefits including medical, dental and vision coverage.

Job Summary:

To assist in providing for the security and protection of all students, staff, and property.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Meet eligibility requirements of the Department of Public Safety and Standards Training (DPSST).
  • Ability/willingness to work out of doors.
  • Ability to work successfully with adolescents.
  • Knowledge and practice of effective communication skills.
  • Ability to gain the respect and confidence of students, parents, and staff through the modeling of appropriate behavior.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, teachers, administrators, co-workers, supervisor and the public.
  • Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and harmoniously as a team member.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and work without close supervision.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District personnel and the public.
  • Maintains confidential information and the privacy of District staff, students, and families.
  • Carries out work responsibilities effectively under pressure of deadlines, interruptions, and new or emergency situations.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Ability to respect confidential information.
  • Computer skills to include use of word processing programs, database programs and the Google Suite of products.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Conducts patrol inspections of buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.
  • Conducts patrol inspections of doors, windows, and gates to determine that they are secure.
  • Confronts unauthorized persons for questioning, routes or detains them, or calls for assistance, according to the emergency action plan.
  • Reports any unusual conditions or malfunctioning of heating, plumbing, or electrical systems.
  • Patrols school grounds to detect unauthorized vehicles; to check cars for parking authorization; to determine if vehicles are parked in restricted areas, such as near fire hydrants or in driveways.
  • Checks exterior lighting and emergency access routes.
  • Provides for safety and security of students, staff and parents by patrolling buildings and grounds during school hours as well as before and after school.
  • Reports illegal activities, questionable or unsafe conditions or problems with security to the principal or designee.
  • Recommends improvements in security and safety of facilities to the principal or designee.
  • Assists in resolving conflicts and similar problem situations between students.
  • Assists with implementing school-wide student management plan and incentive programs.
  • Directs all general traffic and bus traffic as needed to maintain order in vehicle and pedestrian crossings.
  • Maintains radio communication with school personnel.
  • Detains students for alleged misconduct and delivers students to appropriate authorities that may include counselors, administrators and/or police officials.
  • Enforces all policies relating to student discipline and attendance.
  • Develops and maintains positive external lines of communications with parents, patrons, community agencies and other public agencies.
  • Supervises students during recess, lunch periods, and before/after school by keeping a calm and disciplined atmosphere on the outside grounds, in the cafeteria, library, hallways and bus lines.
  • Assists others in matters of filing, sorting, data collecting and organizing material.
  • Responsible for being familiar with the school/district policies and procedures which govern the work.
  • Prompt and regular attendance is required.

Other Job Functions:

  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Participates in various meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving one's skills/knowledge.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; and use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and peripheral vision.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens. The noise level in the work environment varies but is usually moderate.

Terms of Employment: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of classified staff.
