TITLE:Campus Police Dispatcher
POSITION NO.: P00985
SECTION: Campus Police/Administrative Services
HIRING SALARY: $31,255.86 - $34,409.93 annually; all salary calculations to start at the minimum salary
HOURS: 40 hour work week, which requires working all variable shifts from 8:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M.; 4 P.M. - Midnight; and Midnight to 8 P.M.; including some weekends

MAJOR FUNCTION: The Campus Police Dispatcher is housed within Campus Police and reports to the Campus Police Officer Manager. The person in this position monitors surveillance cameras and uses a two-way radio to receive and transmit to and from law enforcement officers on complaints, crimes in progress and general police communications. The person in this position will provide detailed messages regarding the safety and conditions of police officers performing hazardous duties. The position requires the use of NCIC/FCIC terminals, CAD system and Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS). Accurately track, monitor, and document all officer activities during their tour of duty in accordance with agency policy. The position receives processes and effectively prioritizes calls for service according to emergency and non-emergency in accordance with department policy. The person in this position answers the police department telephone, route calls to the appropriate person, and serves as backup for the college switchboard as needed. The position performs other related duties as assigned by the Office Manager.
MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Graduation from a standard high school or equivalency diploma and one year of related experience. College coursework can substitute at a rate of thirty (30) semester hours or forty-five (45) quarter hours for the required experience.
SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING: Knowledge of the college's policies and procedures including the geographical layout of campus buildings, offices and departments. Knowledge of the Florida Statutes, court systems and the department operating procedures. Knowledge of police communications and dispatch. Ability to communicate effectively and work well with all types of people including faculty, staff, students and the public. Ability to speak clearly and distinctly and remain calm and courteous in very stressful situations. Ability to work independently and perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Ability to handle and process confidential information with discretion. Ability to operate a two-way portable radio and perform duties and responsibilities of other clerical staff as needed. Ability to use a personal computer, LAN and mainframe. Ability to use NCIC/FCIC terminals, CAD systems, and the CJIS System.
