Description
Who We Are
Since 1938, generations of campers have come to experience the joy and beauty of Camp Silver Creek. Located deep inside Oregon's Silver Falls State Park, historic Camp Silver Creek is a magical place for children and adults alike. Towering evergreens and a stream flow through the camp's four units. In the center of camp, a beautiful field is perfect for field games and the lake welcomes boaters, fishermen, and even the early morning polar bear swimmers. We are actively hiring great role models who are energetic, collaborative and hard working to join the team for this summer. Ready to make a difference and have the best summer of your life? We'd love to have you apply!
The Role In A Nutshell
We're looking for a Creativity Director to bring the joy of Arts and Crafts to campers. You will plan activities tied to our weekly themes that allow campers to explore and create. You will also enjoy capturing the joy of camp as the camp photographer. A leadership retreat will take place in either May or June, then this role starts at the camp on June 10th and runs through August 24th.
A Typical Day (even though there's no such thing as a typical day at camp...)

  • Join a cabin group for breakfast
  • Prepare your materials for the art activities of the day
  • Take care of and know the needs of our art supplies at camp
  • Encourage campers as they explore and create art from your lessons
  • Get to know the campers during their lunchtime
  • Take pictures of all the amazing activities happening at camp, and assist in posting them to our social media accounts and other programs for the Y.
  • Support the Assistant Director of People in working with a camper in the Chill Zone, needing comfort and encouragement.
  • Help the Assistant Director of Programming to run the evening game
  • MC campfire and enjoy the crazy songs and skits
  • Monitor campers in the evening to allow the counselors to have some time off
  • Get some sleep so you can come back and do it all again

Requirements
This Job Might Be For You If:
  • You're a Role Model The role of Creativity Director is a leadership position. Staff and campers will look to you to lead by example. You'll always need to model exemplary behavior while also creating a safe and inclusive environment.
  • You're responsible. Whether it's showing up to your activity area on time and providing enthusiastic instruction or ensuring the campers are always using equipment properly, the emotional and physical wellbeing of our campers is of utmost importance.
  • You're a great listener. Campers will confide in staff when they are concerned. You'll need to hear all sides of the story and help resolve the conflict, so it doesn't pop up again. It's not always what you hear with your ears though - you'll need to pick up on nonverbal cues and body language to uncover issues that may be bubbling up beneath the surface.
  • You enjoy providing support and positive reinforcement. Campers can find themselves out of their comfort zone at camp. Whether it's reminding a camper to put on sunscreen or helping a scared camper overcome his fears on the archery range, you're always willing to offer a helping hand.
  • You're an excellent communicator and team player. You'll work with the counselors and all the leadership staff. You will report to the Assistant Director of Programming. Making sure everyone is on the same page is crucial to providing a positive camp experience for all the campers.
  • You're calm under pressure. Things move a mile a minute at camp. When a problem arises, you'll need to be cool under pressure and spring into action to help solve it safely and efficiently.
  • You're open to feedback. Working with kids can be challenging, whether it's your first time or you're a seasoned veteran. Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it - our leadership team has worked in the camping industry for years and is happy to support you.
  • You're willing to share your hidden talents with camp. Can you jump rope while balancing a cup of water on your head as you sing "Donut Shop" with perfect pitch? Know how to play the ukulele and harmonica? Campers love to see our staff members' hidden talents and we'd love to see yours too!
  • You will be 18 by the start of the camping season.
  • You have experience working with youth and/or with art. We would love an individual that is knowledgeable basic arts and crafts and has experience in being a responsible and caring role model for youth.

Perks Of The Job
