The Teen and Camp Assistant supports the Summer Camp and Teen Team programs in collaboration with the Camp Leader, Teen Team Instructor, and Coordinator of Public Programs. The ideal candidate will have outstanding organizational skills, a friendly and energetic demeanor, and will demonstrate a passion for working with people of all ages and from diverse backgrounds. The Camp and Teen Assistant is responsible for assisting the program leaders with their respective programs, including but not limited to participant supervision and mentorship, workshop/supplies management and upkeep, and administrative tasks where applicable.
The High Museum Summer Art Camp is a hands-on art day camp for children in rising first through rising eighth grade. Eight different week-long topics are available during the summer months providing age-appropriate art exploration and creation. Each week, more than 80 campers participate, with up to 15 dedicated camp staff implementing and supporting the program. The Camp and Teen Assistant aids the Camp Leader in leading these efforts.
The High Museum Teen Team is a group of 15 creative high school students who share a common interest in art and community engagement. The Teen Team offers participants the opportunity to engage with art, culture, and history; develop workplace and team building skills; and learn about a range of professional options and career paths. The Teen Team gets behind-the-scenes access to the Museum, assists in planning teen nights and events, assists with our public programming, and learns about the Museum's exhibitions and collections. The Camp and Teen Assistant aids the Teen Team Instructor in leading these efforts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Camp:

• Oversees all supplies and inventory for camp, in collaboration with the Camp Leader and Assistant Camp Leader.
• Provides direct assistance with campers in workshops, during lunches/snack times, and in galleries as needed.
• Assists with daily, weekly, and summer-long set-up, maintenance, and clean-up of camp spaces and supplies.
• Relieves and assists staff as needed for breaks, emergencies, tardies/absences, and when extra help is needed.
• Remains visible and accessible to staff, campers, and caregivers.
• Assists with daily drop-off and pick-up; ensures that all campers are delivered safely and accurately from caregiver to workshop.
• Communicates all pertinent staff and camper needs, issues, and concerns to Camp Leader and Coordinator of Public Programs in a timely manner.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Teen Team:

• Oversees all workshop and material prep for Teen Team.
• Oversees daily Teen Team check-in and check-out.
• Mentors and guides Teen Team members while maintaining a professional presence.
• Sets a good example for Teen Team members in all areas, including professional appearance, punctuality, adherence to rules, and responsibility.
• Assists the Teen Team Instructor in activities, break-out sessions, and discussions. Aids in facilitating projects, gallery exploration, and brainstorming sessions.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Compensation: $14/hr

Qualifications:

• High school graduate; current undergraduate studies in art administration, youth education, or museum studies preferred.
• Previous experience working with teens a youth required.
• Understands and recognizes boundaries with Teen Team members.
