Job Summary:
Pratt & Whitney's Core Manufacturing Engineering organization is currently seeking a qualified CAM Applications Engineer with multi-axis numerical control (NC) programming expertise to join our Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) Deployment team. P&W manufactures complex aerospace components for commercial and military engine programs.
You will provide innovative Numerical Control solutions to Module Center Operations, Repair Operations and occasional support to suppliers and joint venture partners. This role seeks to elevate the current methods/technology used by the requesting NC programming department. You will work effectively on teams from Design and Manufacturing to identify CAM tools and standard methodologies that maximize the use of Engineering Product Definition in a Computer Aided Manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide CAM application solutions for process development on new product introduction. Support cost reduction of mature product through improved part processing time using efficient CAM technology and innovative mistake proofing techniques.
  • Integrate closed loop methodology through on-machine probing and data collection to enable process control and reduce operator intervention using Siemens probing cycles and Renishaw Inspection Plus probing cycles.
  • Provide analytical recommendations to optimize programs and machine tool capabilities using machining modeling software tools such as Third Wave Production Module
  • Provide leadership and expertise in the utilization of NC verification software using CGTech Vericut and NX Integrated Simulation & Verification (IS&V) tools.
  • Support continuous improvement of documented standard methodologies and standard work for the NC sub-discipline.
  • Support the enterprise transition from NX post builder to NX post configurator with IS&V through projects with internal customers driving project from initial data capture to completion.
  • Support testing and standard work creation for the enterprise transition to model-based definition as it relates to the CAM discipline including but not limited to Teamcenter Manufacturing Resource Library and shop floor connect.
  • Support for legacy standalone CAM tools and integrated NX utilities as well as to develop plans and drive to completion to modernize or retire as needed.
  • Provide support for annual NX release activities including software testing and manufacturing custom data migration.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mfg. Engineering Technology
  • 5+ years of experience programming lathes, mill-turns and multi-axis mills using Siemens NX.
  • Requires strong working knowledge of CNC controls (Siemens, Fanuc, Okuma OSP, Heidenhein, Allen Bradley) and macro programming.
  • Advanced knowledge of high-speed machining techniques, dynamic toolpath application, cutting tool technology, and machine tool capabilities to design NC programs that incorporate sound machining processes.
  • Highly proficient in the use of Siemens NX CAD including but not limited to assembly modeling, WAVE linking, and surface modeling as it relates to proper CAM workflow.
  • US Citizenship is required due to government contracts.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mfg. Engineering Technology, Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
  • Ability and willingness to learn NX Post Configurator and IS&V customization.
  • Prior use of Data Acquisition Systems, or an understanding of their concepts
  • Advanced experience in TCL programming is necessary; a full understanding in other programming languages including NX Open, Python, C and Perl is highly desirable.
  • System design and integration skills
  • 6 years' experience with machine control logic and post processor creation.
