Cake Decorator
The Cake Decoratoris responsible for preparing breads, pastries, desserts by designing, producing and maintaining production of artistic presentation. The Cake Decorator may handle other assigned duties including but not limited to: providing superior customer service, bakery counter presentation, fresh and high quality of products, rotating baked goods, and clean bakery cases, according to Katella Bakery’s expectations.
Job Duties:
- Creating and producing a variety of pastries and design new cakes
- Prepare cakes, pastries, icings, fillings, and any other necessary items needed for decorating
- Decorate all cakes within specified time indicated for all customer orders
- Decorates cookies, cakes, cupcakes, and other baked goods for display and bakery counter sales
- Inspects finished bakery products in accordance with Katella Bakery’s standard of quality, weight, specifications and presentation
- Setup, icing and decorating all sizes and shapes of cakes from start to finish
- Knowledge of various icing borders, flowers, and writing techniques including color combinations, color wheel, and mixing colors, including working with butter cream, fondant, and chocolate.
- Ability to design, consult and help customers through custom order process
- Enhancing pastry/bakery department reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different request; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments
- Maintain positive employee relations through respectful, open and effective two-way communication at the individual and team levels.
- Good interpersonal skills, ability to obtain information, determine course of action and follow through
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize and work effectively within a sometimes-pressurized environment.
- Assist Bakery Manager as needed
Hours: Must be able to work days or evenings, with extended hours, weekends, Holidays, as needed. Holidays are peak times and no time off is given during these times.
Skills/Qualifications:
- A passion to work in a Bakery
- Minimum 3 years as with previous pastry / cake decorating experience.
- Must have fondant exp
- Must enjoy and be able to succeed positively and work effectively in a fast-paced team environment.
- Knowledge of stacking and customizing cakes (carving cakes into shapes a plus)
- Working knowledge of basic equipment including but not limited to mixers, blenders, food processors, and small wares equipment.
- Superior organizational skills for follow-through and the ability to juggle and prioritize.
- Fluent in English and Spanish preferred, but not required.
- Continuous use of hands and arms, along with bending, reaching, twisting.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, as needed.
- Knowledgeable in safe food handling and sanitation, along with safety baking procedures.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- California Food Handler Card is required for all foodservice employees who prepare, store, serve food.
