Job Title:
Food Service/Cafeteria Worker
Location:
Cheektowaga, NY
Duties:
Performs routine food service tasks specified by Manager
Assists in coaching Cafeteria Workers from Adult Services
Transports meals from Cheektowaga to Tonawanda, NY- Candidates MUST have a valid NYS driver's license
Shift:
Full Time- 30 hrs weekly
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent PLUS 1 yr of experience in professional food service
Valid NYS Driver's License
Rate of Pay:
$15.00/hr

Position Summary:
Performs routine food service tasks as specified by the Manager; Assists in coaching Cafeteria Workers from Adult Services; May be assigned to any aspect of the school food service operation.
Reporting Relationship:
Receives general supervision from Food Service Manager and administrative supervision from Administrative Manager.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assists in preparation of school meals as requested; Assists in packing food and non-food items for transport to satellite; may be required to transport meals to satellite; if transporting meals, monitors agency vehicle to maintain safe operation; documents travel details on agency log form
  • Assists in maintaining work areas and serving areas in clean, sanitary and safe condition; Washes and cleans counters, steam tables, utensils and other equipment
  • Uses kitchen and transport equipment safely; Recognizes potential and current problems; uses effective problem solving skills;
  • Reports immediately all accidents/incidents to appropriate staff members
  • Demonstrates the flexibility necessary to accommodate changing needs
  • Assists with stock and inventory as requested
  • Attends all mandated in-service sessions and displays a willingness to attend specific training as required by the position and/or supervisor
  • Develops and maintains a positive working relationship with staff members.
  • Utilizes the Employee Handbook, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point Food Safety Manual and other materials provided to learn and follow policies and procedures
  • Performs other related duties as required by the supervisor
  • Maintains and protects confidential or other sensitive information such as Protected Health Information (PHI) and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) as defined in the agency's information security policy.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent PLUS one year of experience in professional food service.
PLUS
Experience in school food service preferred; Knowledge of proper methods of kitchen equipment care and sanitation; Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Physical demands and Exposure Risk outlined on attached form (A)

Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, sit, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, climb flight of stairs; Good physical strength and be able to lift/transfer a minimum of 50 lbs. unassisted and is able to assist in two-three person lifts as necessary; Must be able to perform physical tasks outlined in the education program's Safe Student Movement manual; Must have the ability to see, hear, listen, speak clearly, good motor coordination: grip, strength, eye-hand coordination
  • Mental Requirements:

The ability to concentrate in a noisy and crowded environment;The ability to perform critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills, write in clear, organized manner, show good judgment, independent action, prioritizing, following directions; Works independently, as well as cooperatively with others. Be approachable and enthusiastic and meet job related tasks accordingly.
  • Human Relations Skills:

The ability to communicate with individuals in a positive manner, both oral and written, serve as an appropriate role model to co-workers and program participants; Receive supervision instruction in a positive manner; Adhere to agency's policies, procedures, rules and regulations; Maintains a professional attitude and appearance at all times.
  • Equipment Operation:

The ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment; dishwasher, stove/oven/grill, slicer, scale, food thermometer; the ability to drive agency vehicle/van; Use kitchen cleaners, chemicals and ability to come in contact with normal cafeteria dust/dirt, odors and fumes.
