Job Title: Detailer

Location: Des Moines IA

Overall Purpose: The Detailer plays a crucial role in creating precise designs, layouts, drawings, and production prints for new and existing products and jobs, ensuring adherence to internal and external standards. This position focuses on delivering high-quality, on-time, and error-free design work based on specific standards and customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Drafting: Generate designs, layouts, drawings, production prints, and edits using AutoDesk Inventor, Vault, and AutoCAD. Ensure all outputs accurately meet AISC, CE, OSHA, AWS standards, company protocols, and customer requirements.
  • Shop Detail Drawings: Efficiently produce shop detail drawings, erection plans, and materials lists for both standard and custom structural products, aligning with all product lines' requirements.
  • Project Coordination: Deliver drawings in line with the production schedule, incorporating customer designs and specifications accurately. Maintain a current drawing log for all design drawings and revisions.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, production, and purchasing teams to resolve any questions, issues, or problems, ensuring projects are completed on time and without errors.
  • Bill of Materials and ERP Management: Compile customer approval drawings, create and enter Bill of Materials into ERP software, and ensure accurate routing.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in and lead continuous improvement processes, suggesting and implementing better processes or solutions where possible.

Position Requirements:

  • Education: Applicable undergraduate degree or a combination of education and experience in a relevant field.
  • Experience: Experience with 3D/2D AutoCAD and Inventor (or similar drafting programs), particularly in steel structural manufacturing, is preferred.
  • Functional Skills: Requires strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Must have excellent planning, prioritizing, attention to detail, and follow-up skills. Experience in enhancing processes and sourcing materials or vendors to meet production and budget goals is essential.
  • Technology Skills: Proficient with MS Office Suite, especially Excel and Word. Experience with ERP systems (Oracle preferred) and a strong aptitude for learning new technologies. Knowledge of AutoCad, Autodesk Inventor, Vault, or similar 3D/2D programs.
  • Language Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Leadership/Behaviors: Independent, quick learner with the ability to initiate and complete tasks. Must be able to create structural drawings from customer requirements while adhering to relevant specifications.
