Job description

Ska Fabricating is looking for a motivated CAD/CAM Technician to join our team located in Grand Rapids, MI.

This position reports to the engineering lead, but must be able to work independently as a liaison between the design team and the production team to help create drawings and assess the manufacturability of parts and assemblies. The CAD/CAM technician must be able to demonstrate strong drawing, modeling, and programming capabilities with a minimum of 2 years experience operating relevant software.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS

  • Technical drawing ability with knowledge of industry standards and expectations
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills
  • Very detail oriented with an understanding of precision machining requirements
  • 2D Autocad Drawing
  • 3D Modeling - Inventor preferred
  • Toolpath creation with CAM software
  • Basic understanding of how CNC machines work, some CNC operation preferred
  • Basic understanding of G Code, G Code programming a plus
  • Basic knowledge of common materials - metals, plastics, etc. and best practices for working with them
  • Competency with fabrication and machine shop measurement tools: tape measure, micrometer, calipers, dial indicators, protractors etc.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate part and assembly production by taking finished designs from engineering and delivering a manufacturing instruction package to the shop floor
  • Provide feedback to engineering regarding design manufacturability and feasibility
  • Managing part and assembly production to ensure timelines are met and the correct parts are delivered
  • Machine shop and fabrication quality control
  • Maintain a manufacturing queue and provide the design team with accurate lead times
  • Generate the 3D models needed to manufacture parts and assemblies
  • Create technical construction drawings for both parts and assemblies
