Position Title – Business Transaction Attorney
FLSA Status – Exempt
Position Summary – An attorney admitted to practice in the state of Kansas who drafts, edits and counsels clients on business succession plans, contracts and commercial transactions. Attorney will be assigned to work independently and as an integral part of the Firm’s business succession planning team for high net worth business owners under the direct supervision of other attorney(s) within the Firm, while observing confidentiality in all client and Firm matters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains membership in the Kansas State Bar and completes all required Continuing Legal Education requirements on an annual basis.
- Follows the ethical requirements as set forth by the Rules of Professional Conduct of the State of Kansas and complies with all requirements of the Firm’s professional liability insurer.
- Performs quality work on a timely basis and provides outstanding client service.
- Exercises discretion and forward-thinking decision-making capabilities to draft and negotiate contracts, agreements and other services that accurately reflect business requirements while minimizing risk.
- Performs necessary legal research using all available resources including library and computer resources.
- Advises and communicates regularly with clients regarding the status of their matter.
- Book of business not required, but not discouraged.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of law and legal practice in order to perform substantive legal function in client matters as normally acquired through completion of a Juris Doctorate Degree.
- 5 years’ experience in matters concerning business and commercial transactions, including contract drafting and negotiation, purchases and sales of closely-held business; business entity formation; real estate purchases and sales; general asset transfers; preparation of stockholders’ agreements and other equity agreements.
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate well, both verbal and written, with a diverse group of clients, attorneys and staff and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact.
