Business Systems Support Specialist-Commercial Systems

Design, implement and provide support for computer-based enterprise business solutions for Valero's Trading, Supply, Transportation and Marketing functions as part of the Information Services (IS) Commercial Systems Support team.  Works in close collaboration with team members, end users and other IS departments in a dynamic work environment to meet the changing support requirements with little to no supervision.  Will be assigned to support existing ERP, and other business related applications such as Trader's and Scheduler's Workbench (TSW), TriplePoint Commodity Trading and Risk Management application, Inventory Projection Tool, Vendor Invoice Management, Wholesale Contract Management systems, etc.  This includes, but is not limited to: trouble-shooting, problem-solving, issue resolution, user interaction, training, defining systems scope, gathering requirements, documenting design, functional specifications & test scripts, research and fact-finding, configuration, testing, reporting, cutover, IS and business user coordination.

Job Duties Include: 

  • Providing support for assigned commercial applications as an individual contributor.
  • Performing business analysis on and recommending quality complex solutions for business processes.
  • Working on moderately complex tasks for the deployment of new solutions and enhancements/fixes to existing solutions.  These include, but are not limited to: trouble-shooting, problem-solving, issue resolution, user interaction, training, defining systems scope, gathering requirements, documenting design & functional specifications, research and fact-finding, configuration, testing, reporting, cutover, IS and business user coordination.
  • Demonstrating an ability to rapidly learn new business processes and assess gaps between those processes and business initiatives.  Also displaying an ability to retain process knowledge and applying that knowledge towards understanding integration impact with existing and new processes.
  • Developing effective working relationships at various job levels with business users, IS departments and Valero business partners.
  • Developing and maintaining test plans for systems as required.   Coordinating testing and document results.
  • Completing unit testing system changes before production loads.
  • Assisting in the evaluation and selection of the best solution from many possible alternatives, to handle various business needs as they arise.
  • Assisting in the coordination of the adoption of new business procedures resulting from system improvements, through the development of documentation, training, and communication plans.
  • Understanding and applying the various IT methodologies which include project management, development, service management and system architecture.

 Minimum Job Requirements: 

      Bachelor's degree (or higher) or foreign degree equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration or a related field.

      A minimum of five (5) years of refinery industry or business/IT experience utilizing SAP-MM.

      Experience with SAP ECC 6.0 or higher.

      Refinery industry or related business/IT knowledge with SAP ERP system.

      Experience with SAP's IS-Oil module:  Formula & Average Pricing (F&A), Hydrocarbon Product Management (HPM), Exchanges, Trader's & Scheduler's Workbench (TSW).

      Experience with SAP Sales & Distribution module.

      Hands-on expertise in implementing the following SAP MM Procurement and Inventory Management functions:  Vendor and Material Master, Outline Agreements, Purchase Orders, Service Orders, Intercompany Purchases, Stock Transfers, Pricing, Material Movements, Inventory Valuation, MM Account Determination and Invoice Verification.

      Hands-on experience designing custom solutions within the ECC landscape as well as solutions involving complex integration with external systems and/or business partners.

      Basic skills using Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Lync).
