The Office of Institutional Research invites applications for a Business Operations Analyst.
Required Skills
The individual assigned to this role will develop the unit's strategies for analyzing current and historical data in response to UM priorities and via meeting with stakeholders to assess needs. In addition, the person occupying this position will design and create dashboards or other appropriate data visualizations to meet UM and user needs. The employee in this position will be expected to assume the following responsibilities:
  • Work closely with UM Data Architects on the development of the data infrastructure and required ETL routines.
  • Serve as team expert for data visualization in Tableau, ARGOS and other visualization tools and provide in-depth regular training and "did you know updates" for team members and campus data users
  • Lead efforts with Data Hub members to ensure consistent reporting standards and definitions are applied
  • Train users on the interpretation of data visualizations
  • Train users on how to create data visualizations in Tableau, ARGOS, and any other used data visualization tool
  • Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with IT Enterprise Technology team members and all university data stewards.
  • Conduct regular interviews with campus users to ensure data visualizations are easy to use and helpful
  • Develop documentation including working closely with team members to document technical and layman definitions in the Data Cookbook.
  • Investigate problems and find timely resolutions.
  • Exhibit an ongoing desire to expand skillset via online and other professional development opportunities.

Minimum Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree and one to two (1-2) years of working in business intelligence, business analytics, or Institutional Research. (Preferably experience with Tableau) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and see the big picture to identify the appropriate metrics and data application.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in business, information systems, computer science or related field
  • SQL experience with the ability to write complex SQL statements
  • Three to five (3-5) years of experience with business intelligence

Position Details
Position Title:Business Operations Analyst (Data Research Analyst)

Department: Office of Institutional Research
Work Schedule: Full -time, 1.0 FTE (40 hrs/wk), 12 months/year
Salary: $21.975/hr
Union Affiliation: FOCUS-MFPE
Probationary Period: Six months minimum
