Job description

Requisition Id 12139

Overview:

As a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science national laboratory, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has an extraordinary 80-year history of solving the nation’s biggest problems. We have a dedicated and creative staff of over 6,000 people! Our vision for diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) is to cultivate an environment and practices that foster diversity in ideas and in the people across the organization, as well as to ensure ORNL is recognized as a workplace of choice. These elements are critical for enabling the execution of ORNL’s broader mission to accelerate scientific discoveries and their translation into energy, environment, and security solutions for the nation.

Who are we looking for?

The Business Intelligence and Financial Management Applications Group in the Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) in the Business Services Directorate at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking qualified and energetic applicants to lead the technical team to support and transform our Business Intelligence and Analytics areas.

Who are we?

Born in secrecy under the Manhattan project of World War II, ORNL has emerged as the U.S. Department of Energy’s largest open science and energy laboratory. Innovation at ORNL is powered by literally thousands of top tier scientists, engineers, and technicians with access to world class facilities including one of the world’s fastest supercomputers (Summit).  ORNL has 3-D printed a car (an all-electric Shelby Cobra Mustang) and recently helped discover a new element on the periodic table (Tennessine – Atomic Number 117).  We are engaging in open, peer reviewed, interdisciplinary research across multiple application domains from neutrons to biology, nuclear to manufacturing, and nanophase to national security.

What will you be doing?

The Business Intelligence and Analytics Team Leader (TL) is responsible for direct supervision of the members of the BI team and for assisting the Group Leader (GL) in the technical oversight for BI applications.  This role requires considerable use of initiative, independent judgment, and communications.

Working at ORNL

ORNL has an innovative and fast paced culture that has a flexible work schedule and very competitive pay with industry. On any given day, after listening to a talk from a Nobel Laureate, you can eat at two full-service cafés’, go to a spin class, do business at the ORNL credit union, or visit the full-service primary care clinic, all without leaving our campus.

Living in East Tennessee

It’s easy to overlook everything East Tennessee has to offer if you haven’t had the opportunity to spend time here. From spending your weekends downtown at Knoxville’s farmers market, the Rhythm n’ Blooms Music Festival, or the Dogwood Arts Festival, to some of the best hiking, kayaking, and camping in the U.S., not only in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park but all over the greater area, East Tennessee is a beautiful area with four true seasons but mild weather and something to offer everyone.
