Job description

Bilingual Business Coach (Contract Role)

Groundswell Capital is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the equitable, innovative and sustainable future of our community. As part of our mission, we have developed a suite of innovative, equitable lending programs designed to close the gap in access to capital for underrepresented groups.

Our flagship program, the AVANZA Empowerment Fund blends flexible capital with wrap-around Business Coaching and support. We are also in the process of designing new financial and business education courses, for example AVANZA Academy, and Aliados. We are seeking a Bilingual Business Coach to support our small businesses with pre- and post-loan businesses education, coaching, and mentorship.

This role would involve:

  • Implementing curriculum and tools that have been developed and manualized under the supervision of the lending team. On the job training and shadowing will be provided.
  • Ensuring that data collection, case management, and reporting are submitted correctly and in a timely manner
  • Building strong relationships with small businesses
  • Providing expert business advice and feedback to ensure businesses are improving operations, growing in confidence, increasing revenue, decreasing costs, and moving toward a more scalable and profit-generating business model
  • Helping businesses anticipate potential barriers to successful loan repayment and develop contingency plans to stay on track

Estimated Hours:

  • 18 - 32 hours of direct support and planning a month
  • 10 - 15 hours of administrative and reporting a month

Qualifications:

We are seeking a small business expert with a minimum of 5 years of Business Coaching experience (certificates and training in financial coaching is a plus!)

Personal Skills Must Include:

  • Fluent in written and verbal Spanish and English
  • Clear and engaging communicator
  • Strong group facilitation skills that elicit participation and self-reflection
  • Ability to implement a program as designed, a quick learner is a must!
  • Highly detailed-oriented with strong project and case management skills
  • Experience collecting data and writing brief reports
  • Technologically savvy
  • Values alignment with the relationship and equity-based program
  • Strong personal judgment and exceptional professionalism

  • Cash flow & Balance Sheet Analysis
  • Creative solutions for increasing sales, revenue and decreasing expenses

  • Marketing
  • Technology & automation
  • Experience with lending and debt capital
  • How to work with professional service providers (ie. accounting, legal, insurance etc)

Metrics of Success Include:

  • Implementing the program with fidelity
  • High-levels of engagement and customer satisfaction
  • Timely completion of assigned projects and ensuring appointments are scheduled and attended with strong levels of follow-up

Pre-Loan Tasks

  • Discovery Meetings - (Estimated 2-5 hours a month)

As part of our application process for AVANZA, we have developed a “Discovery Meeting” process that utilizes Motivational Interviewing to help learn more about the small business and help them determine if they are a fit for the AVANZA Program. You will be trained in Motivational Interviewing and our internal process for implementing and documenting this role.

Post-Loan Tasks

  • Loan Success Playbook- (Estimated 5-7 hours a month)

After being funded, each business receives a Loan Success Playbook which is developed through an interactive planning session. Goals, metrics of success, and timelines are established through an empowering and supportive planning process. In this role you will facilitate this engaging and helpful process for new borrowers

  • 360 Business Analysis and Contingency Planning - (Estimated 5-7 hours a month)

Hoping for the best but planning for the worst is an important part of business success. Each borrower is guided through an interactive and reflective 360 Business Analysis and Contingency Planning process, facilitated by a Business Coach.

We have developed a 360 Analysis Tool to assist small businesses in exploring areas and potential risks that they “don’t know they don’t know”. You will assist the small business in analyzing the results of this survey and developing plans of action to address potential risks.

You will also explore possible threats to successfully building revenue and repaying their loan successfully. You will use our program process to examine how social supports, networks, and other community resources can be leveraged to assist small businesses when unexpected challenges arise.

  • CIRCULO (Estimated 3 hours a month)

As part of AVANZA, each small business participates in 6 months of Executive Coaching with peers in the form of a once a month peer-to-peer program. You will be trained to implement this program, leveraging strong group facilitation skills.

  • One-to-One Business Coaching (as needed) (Estimated 3 hours a month)
  • Support in Launching and Facilitating Avanza Academy (Estimated 4 hours a month)
  • Data entry and reporting (Estimated 3 hours a month)
  • Additional Curriculum and Program Development (as needed)

This role is rewarding and requires excellent communication skills and a high level of efficiency. Most of the work takes place during office hours, but some evening hours may be required.

Job Types: Part-time, Contract

Pay: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 7 – 12 per week
