Preferred Skills
- Assists students in getting on the bus and to assigned seats
- Ensures all passengers are properly seated or restrained while riding the bus
- Assist driver in assuring seat belts, harnesses and wheel chair clamps are secured as required
- Assist school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students; coordinate seating of pre-kindergarten students as required by State Transportation Guidelines.
- Communicates with teachers, principals and parents concerning student background, medical issues, and behavior as appropriate
- Assist the school bus driver in maintain discipline while the bus is in operation, so the driver will not be distracted from safe driving
- Maintains a positive, calm attitude and a sot voice while on the job
- Protects students from physical and verbal abuse by anyone on the bus and reports any misbehavior to the bus driver
- Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures
- Attend in-service meetings and training courses as assigned
- Consult with and assist bus driver in documentation of student information, record-keeping
- Learns the bus route and assists a substitute driver on the route
- Checks the bus to assure there are no students remaining on the bus at the end of each route
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Maintain regular attendance
- High School diploma or GED
- Must be able to pass all required training required by the school district and the Mississippi Department of Education
- Must pass police background record check
- Must be eighteen (18) years of age
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.

- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and oral instructions
- Ability to deal with problems involving students and communicate effectively
- A good Attitude, patience and disposition to work with special education students
- Knowledgeable of safe practices concerning school bus transportation
