Job description

          Position: Bus Driver (Full Time)  JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  • Drives any type and size of school bus that may be operated by the school for the transportation of Students/ passengers on regularly scheduled routes.
  • Report to work/route on time as assigned by transportation manager 
  • Operates assigned school buses on assigned trips in accordance with printed trip schedules and in accordance with specified stop, sequence, and time schedules.
  • Boards, transports, and discharges passengers. 
  • Obeys all State/Federal laws and regulations while operating school bus 
  • Develops via-directions and maintains and updates current student and trip manifests. 
  • Monitors the operational condition and safety of vehicle accessories of assigned buses on a daily basis; monitors gauges and sensors while operating a bus and reports discrepancies to initiate corrective actions. 
  • Practices non-aggressive, defensive driving techniques.
  • Monitors, conducts, and responds to communications with the Transportation Supervisor via two-radio. 
  • Maintains effective professional working relationships with pupils, parents, and staff. 
  • Enforces school policy and procedure in maintaining discipline on buses. 
  • Maintains working knowledge of and complies with laws and regulations pertaining to pupil transportation. 
  • Maintains cleanliness of windows and interior of bus on a daily basis.
  • Ensures familiarity with assigned trips before transporting passengers; may dry-run new trips. 
  • Periodically participates in mandated meetings and in-service programs during traditional and non-traditional workdays and work hours as required by the department. 
  • Maintains and supports standards of personal conduct and discipline in accordance with the current discipline policy approved by Academia Antonia Alonso. 
  • Read and interpret maps, compass directions, schedules, student rosters and procedural instructions. 
  • Rapidly learn routes and the operations of equipment related to duties. 
  • Reports all mechanical problems to the Transportation Manager or Transportation assistant
  • Preforms Pre-trip inspection before each trip and preforms post trip inspection after each trip
  • Sees that children are loaded and unloaded according to established procedures
  • Renders first aide to passengers on an emergency basis. 
  • Reports accidents or injuries to the Transportation Manager
  • May operate a mechanized wheelchair lift. 
  • Performs other duties reasonably related to the job.  
  • Reports to Transportation Supervisor.                                                             
  The Bus Driver: 
  • Must have a High School diploma
  • Experience working as a Bus Driver.
  • Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class B with air brakes
  • Must undergo testing and training and pass a criminal background check.
  • Must follow safety practices when operating school buses and/or state vehicles. 
  • Outstanding customer service, multi-tasking, time management, organization and interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Exceptional ability to build and maintain effective working relationships and interact professionally with all levels of staff, Children, and parents.
  • Work well independently and in a team environment. 
  • Must not have any felony convictions
  • Must not have ever been convicted of a crime involving children
  • Must not have ever been convicted of a drug related crime
  • Must pass a successful background check including child protection.
  • Must successfully pass a DOT pre-employment drug screening and ongoing random testing
  • Must have TB testing
  • Able to Pass an annual physical examination
VERIFICATION OF COMPETENCY:

 EMPLOYMENT TERMS: The Bus Driver shall be employed under the following terms:
  • Work year of 10 months.
  • Hourly pay, leave time, and conditions specified in the offer letter
  • Conditions established by laws and codes of the State, and policies, rules, and regulations established by the Department of education
