Job Description
Provides safe transportation of all passengers to and from various school bus stops,
extracurricular activities, planned events and school facilities.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
EXAMPLES OF JOB FUNCTIONS
The list of functions is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification.
Operates transportation vehicle with heightened awareness of driving conditions and surroundings, in
observance of established safety precautions and driving procedures.
Stops the vehicle at all assigned stops along the route while taking all precautions and actions necessary
to assure safe loading, transporting, and unloading of the passengers; renders assistance to riders with
special needs.
Instructs children in safety precautions and practices; maintains discipline; reports unruly behavior to
school administrator.
Signals children when to cross street or highway and assures that children are safely across before
departure of bus.
Registers students riding the bus and conducts FTE count of students as required.
Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections; maintains vehicle cleanliness and sanitation, to include
attending to spills and cleaning of body fluids.
Assists with planning and operation of transportation routes; identifies efficient routes for daily
activities.
Reports defects or problems with vehicle to mechanic.
Updates route sheet directions as needed.
Prepares daily logs and reports of transportation activities as needed.
Operates radio system in accordance with prescribed procedures.
Utilizes current technology, as appropriate, to perform job functions and participates in training
programs offered to increase technology skill level and proficiency related to job assignment.
Performs related duties as directed.
Requirements:ADA COMPLIANCE
Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert non-strenuous effort in work involving light physical
activity, typically involving some combination of standing; walking; sitting; reaching with hands and
arms; kneeling; crawling; climbing; balancing; bending; crouching and twisting. While performing the
duties of this job, the employee must occasionally lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds and push and/or pull
up to 100 pounds. Manual dexterity and the use of foot controls are regularly required.
Sensory Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, some tasks regularly require oral
communication ability; the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds; the ability to perceive and
discriminate odors; most tasks require visual perception and discrimination and the ability to distinguish
color.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, tasks are regularly performed with
exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as extreme temperatures; outdoor weather
conditions; work near moving mechanical parts; and noise/vibration.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED
Must attend and pass 40 hour Bus Drivers training class
Must have an acceptable driving record for the past seven (7) years
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License with proper endorsement
Must pass annual dexterity test and physical exam
