Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Burn Tech provides patient care to acutely ill/injured burn patients 7days/week, 365 days/year; the Burn Tech primarily assists the Registered Nurse (RN) in providing wound care. This includes coordinating dressing changes, setting up dressing supplies, assisting with dressing changes, applying topical medications and moisturizers under the direct supervision of an RN, discarding soiled dressing change materials and cleaning equipment. In addition, the Burn Tech may transport patients, obtain vital signs, assist in ADL’s, assist in equipment set-up (e.g. electro-cautery), manage supplies and equipment and apply and remove splints. Additionally, the position requires organizing, clerical duties, cleaning, stocking work area in the unit, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of supplies and equipment used for burn wound care, splint, and positioning
- Ability to work with wounds and dressings to care for burn patients
- Recent wound care experience in a Burn ICU
- Recent burn or wound care technician experience
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of practice and protocols related to Burn Unit environment
- Knowledge of the nursing process
- Experience in Burn Unit, surgical ICU, or trauma unit
- Paid or volunteer experience in an acute care hospital trauma or surgical unit

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Ability to lift up to 25lbs and push and pull up to 25lbs. Must be able to stand for several hours while wearing gown, mask, eye protection, gloves, hair covering, shoe covering and to assist with dressing changes. Must be willing to work variable days (including weekends and holidays) and hours as required to meet the operational needs of the Burn Unit. Inpatient experience required.
