General Summary
Under the direction of the Building Official, the Building Technician will help to coordinate activities within the Building Safety Division.
A successful candidate will have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and the public during challenging situations, have excellent communication skills and be well organized.
Employee must maintain regular attendance.
Job Duties
Receive, issue, and file all permits.
Review and disseminate plan review documents.
Maintain open communication with the Plans Examiner.
Communicate and resolve all matters with the permit applicants.
Schedule and prepare for meetings (internal and public).
Model excellent customer service skills, tact and professionalism when responding to inquiries including but not limited to residential and small permits, online applications, certificates of occupancy, fire alarm permits, fire suppression permits, MEP permits, and building permit processes & requirements.
Enter and correlate data in BS&A, share drives and other systems.
Coordinate with the Fire Department, Engineering, Assessing, Planning and other departments, for the building permit and inspection process.
Follow up with the Fire Department, Engineering, Equalization, Planning and other divisions for the final recommendation for certificates of occupancy and temporary certificates of occupancy for commercial and residential development.
Generate certificates of occupancy and temporary certificates of occupancy and obtain necessary signatures from the Building Official.
Communicate/collaborate with the Planning and Code Enforcement on projects.
Maintain FIWA files and activities.
Other duties as requested.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Previous clerical experience including data entry, filing, sorting documents
Demonstrated organizational and multi-tasking skills
Proficient in computers and office technology including Microsoft Word and Excel
Minimum Qualifications
High school graduate or GED equivalent.
Two (2) years of work experience performing administrative support and/or clerical duties.
Bilingual speaking person preferred (Spanish speaking preferred)
Hourly Rate
$18.08 - $24.00
