Job description

PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS: Under general supervision, performs building cleaning and facilities maintenance work throughout the Church. Employees will receive on the job training in the application of simple manual skill, use of cleaning equipment, and supplies to clean the interior and exterior of the building. Nature of work requires sustained physical effort and involves some heavy work in moving or lifting furniture and equipment. Weekend work required. Employees are considered emergency personnel and are required to report to the building during inclement weather, assist with security protocols, and address safety concerns.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: Some knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and practices of building maintenance. Ability to learn how to properly operate and maintain custodial care equipment. Ability to learn the proper use of cleaning supplies and chemicals. Ability to monitor building spaces and grounds to ensure a safe and secure environment. Must be willing to learn basic knowledge of emergency facility response procedures. Ability to comprehend and follow instructions. Ability to communicate with church and community leaders and members. Knowledge of and the ability to meet standards as outlined by the Church leaders.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Sufficient physical strength to lift heavy objects and to perform manual labor with frequent climbing.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Overtime is permitted.) Employees are considered emergency personnel and are required to report to the building during inclement weather. Employees must provide a current working telephone number and update the telephone number, when needed.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: High School or GED diploma preferred. Experience in general cleaning of buildings. Combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position, will be considered.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cleans, vacuums, and sweeps sanctuary, classrooms, offices, multipurpose and other rooms.
  • Empties trash baskets.
  • Dusts furniture and cleans doors, windows and trim.
  • Removes stain from floors, walls, and glass, strips old wax from and applies new wax to floors using hand and power tools.
  • Cleans hallways and stairwells.
  • Wet mops and buffs floors.
  • Cleans lavatories and replaces paper towels and other supplies.
  • Washes windows display cases, glass doors, and other fixtures.
  • Cleans mirrors.
  • Cleans and maintains office, room, kitchen tile, carpet, floor surfaces, and baseboards.11. Cleans and maintains other surfaces such as ceilings, walls, counter and table tops, etc.
  • Cleans and maintains rest rooms.
  • Monitors buildings and grounds, and observes and reports hazardous or otherwise defective conditions.
  • Clears snow from walks and parking lot.
  • Paints as appropriate.
  • Replaces light bulbs.
  • Makes simple minor adjustments and repairs to plumbing, electrical, and other building fixtures.
  • Assists in moving furniture and other heavy objects between rooms and performing other manual tasks.
  • Maintains safe and secure building conditions and appearance.
  • Reports maintenance and supply needs.
  • Assists in maintaining security of the building and grounds during assigned work shifts.
  • Checks to determine that windows and doors are locked and that no unauthorized individuals are in the building.
  • Checks heating and ventilating of building and may replace filters in heating and ventilating units.
  • Cleans equipment and ensures that equipment is in proper working order.
  • Performs a variety of related work as required.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS: This is a part-time position. The employee would be expected to work 20 hours a week. Weekend work is required. Employees are considered emergency personnel and may be required to report to building during inclement weather.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: Up to $18.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 20 per week

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed
