This vacancy is being announced as a Classified position and may be filled as a Job Appointment or Probational appointment.
A preferred candidate should possess at least 3 years of relevant construction experience or have an Architectural or Engineering degree.
As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Building Plans Examiner 1, 2 or 3 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Either one of the following will qualify:
1. Three years of experience in building construction.
2. One year of experience in building codes plans examining or building codes inspection.
SUBSTITUTION: (For both options)
Possession of a baccalaureate degree in engineering or architecture will substitute for all of the required experience.
NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.
Job Concepts
Function of Work:
To assist in applying building code principles, theories, concepts, methods and techniques in the planning, design, construction, and/or inspection of either state owned buildings or other buildings which are required to meet Louisiana's Uniform Construction Code as established by the Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code Council.
Level of Work:
Entry.
Supervision Received:
Direct from Building Official.
Supervision Exercised:
None.
Location of Work:
Department of Public Safety; Office of State Fire Marshal.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from Building Plans Examiner 2 by the absence of the full performance of duties.
Examples of Work
Under the direct supervision of the Building Official may assist in performing the following:
Monitors and initiates general building code review correspondence and coordinates the implementation of required changes during ongoing construction projects.
Consults with and directs Design Professionals assigned to all public and private sector construction projects, or capitol projects.
Periodically reviews codes, regulations and standards to keep abreast of changes to the current relevant codes affecting public and privately owned facilities throughout the state.
Attends technical seminars.
Reviews and analyzes plans and specifications of proposed construction.
Meets and confers with applicants requiring plan review services for municipality building permits.
Rejects incomplete or unsatisfactory submittals.
Meets with municipalities, state, and federal government officials concerning matters relating to the statewide building plan review and municipality building permits.
Consults with and advises various public and private agencies, committees, and individuals interested in all areas of plan development activities.
Participates in and develops programs for training, conferences, and other continuing education programs to keep current with technology, maintain skills, and meet current licensing requirements.
