Job description

City Hall needs a multi-talented trades person to assist with primarily custodial duties and a variety of Building Maintenance, grounds maintenance, and repair work. If you are a reliable self-starter with applicable experience, apply today!
Schedule is 12:00 PM - 9:00 PM Monday - Friday.

MINIMUM CLASS REQUIREMENTS
High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of experience performing a variety of semi-skilled Building Maintenance, cleaning and repair work. Experience in carpentry, construction, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC is preferred.

Must pass a background investigation regarding applicant's aptitude, character, and judgment; credit, driving record and criminal history.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR CERTIFICATES

Must possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver's License. Must have CPR and First Aid Certificate within 6 months.


Under general supervision, performs a variety of facility cleaning, maintenance and repair duties; checks general building conditions; maintains heating and cooling system.
Performs a number of custodial duties in and around building complex in order to maintain clean, attractive, and sanitary operating conditions, cleans floors using brooms, vacuum, mops, and floor cleaning and waxing equipment; washes windows and walls; empties trash containers, cleans and maintains paper supplies in rest rooms; replaces light bulbs.
Checks general building conditions to assure equipment and facilities are in safe and proper working order; performs minor equipment repairs, keeps inventory of frequently used items; maintains proper heating and cooling levels within the building complex. Maintains grounds around building complex including snow removal from sidewalks, litter control, and maintains lawn and picnic areas.
Plans, schedules and approves the maintenance and upkeep of assigned building. Monitors maintenance performed by work crews. Assures walkways and access to and from buildings are in a safe condition; recommends needed supplies and parts in order to accomplish repairs; sets up rooms for meetings.
Maintains security of buildings; may issue keys and change locks as needed; locks and unlocks doors; replaces light bulbs; may use mowers and edgers to maintain facility grounds; and provides directions to the general public for specific offices and officials.
Requires regular and reliable attendance.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Must be able to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing, and to comprehend and execute moderately complex oral and written instructions. Knowledge of: basic trade practices used in repairing or maintaining building equipment and facilities; various types of hand and power tools. Must have knowledge and ability to access the internet and perform basic computer functions. Ability to: maintain and provide minor repair on groundskeeping equipment; perform strenuous manual labor; operate cleaning equipment, and work in inclement weather conditions when necessary. Able to meet and deal with other City employees and the public in a courteous and tactful manner. Must adhere to a high level of non-disclosure standards and maintain confidentiality boundaries.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is frequently performed inside and occasionally outside. Work involves continuous use of hands to handle, feel or operate machines, or controls and reaching with hands and arms. Work frequent bending/twisting at knees/waist/neck while performing related activities. Frequent kneeling/crouching/crawling while working. Occasional heavy work includes lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds. On rare occasions maybe required to lift heavier weight with the assistance of others or mechanical devices up to 50 pounds. Frequently ascends/descends stairs while maintaining balance. Continuous use of all senses including feeling/talking/hearing/seeing while performing duties and while communicating with co-workers, general public and completing all tasks as assigned. May work alone, with others in noisy work areas. Frequent exposure to vibration, mechanical equipment, electrical equipment, pressurized equipment and moving objects. Occasional exposure to dust, dirt, water, unpleasant odors, chemicals, detergents and contaminated blood, materials, needles, high places, gases/vapors, and chemicals. Must be able to distinguish color and maintain long-term and short-term memory. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS
May be required to work shifts and alter schedule on short notice. May be exposed to dust, chemicals, detergents; may come in contact with hostile people and contaminated blood, materials and needles. May be exposed to adverse weather conditions.
