ThisBuilding Inspectorposition is a great opportunity for a professional who's looking to provide consumer protection and public safety for all Idahoans.

This position will service Eastern Idaho, including the Blackfoot area. The specific city this position will be based out of will depend upon the residence of the successful applicant. The anticipated work schedule is 40 hours per week, with some occasional overtime required.

Example of Duties:

+ Conducting inspections or reviews of activities, including determining compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and laws

+ Providing technical advice and assistance in best practices and corrective actions; implementation of safety codes, regulations, and laws

+ Conducting on-site inspections, investigating complaints, and seeking compliance with regulations and safety standards

+ Assembling and preparing background information and documentation regarding noncompliance activities, code violations, safety reviews, and licensure discrepancies

+ Providing technical expertise to building officials, building representatives, contractors, and the public

+ Assisting management and legal staff in addressing violations and possibly testifying in court or in administrative hearings.

Physical Activities of this Position

+ Walking throughout the day; Driving a state vehicle throughout the day

+ Crawling in and out of confined spaces, including attics and crawl spaces

+ Climbing series of stairs in multi-story buildings

+ Climbing ladders up to 14 feet high

+ Moving building material weighing up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications

+ Experience analyzing data for the purposes of making recommendations; operating a personal computer; analyzing data and preparing written reports.

+ Valid driver's license.

Minimum Qualification Specialties:

+ Interpreting building diagrams, plans, and specifications

+ Performing construction inspections to determine compliance with the construction codes adopted by the State

Preferred Qualifications

Construction Experience:

+ Knowledge of Building terminology and processes

+ Experience performing construction plan review, project management or experience with designing building plans.

Additional Certifications:

Although not required at time of hire to qualify for this position, having any of these certifications may improve your standing as an applicant:

+ ICC (international code council)

+ Accessibility Certification

+ Energy Certification

+ Existing Building Code Certification

Building Certification:

Although not required at the time of hire to qualify for this position, having any of these certifications in accordance with Idaho Code 39-4108 may improve your standing as an applicant:

+ certification as a Residential Building Inspector

+ certification as a Commercial Building Inspector

+ certification as a Building Plans Examiner

Additionally, the successful candidate will be required to obtain these certifications within 6 months of hire if they are not already obtained.
