Position Information
Assists higher level inspectors in inspecting the construction, alteration or maintenance of buildings and structures of limited size and scope for compliance with the provisions of building and zoning codes and ordinances and adherence to approved plans and specifications by inspecting phases of projects; and performs other related duties as required.
Current Vacancies:
There are two vacancies with the Department of Planning and Permitting, Building Division. Work duties may include the following special work requirements: Climb ladders, scaffoldings, and temporary stairs, work at excessive heights, crawl under structures and may at time carry heavy loads; walks through timber-shoring, steel jacks, formed columns and wall sections that support the tremendous weight of poured reinforced concrete; inspects buildings that have been structurally damaged by fire, deterioration, dilapidation, abandonment, inadequate maintenance, disaster damage, or obsolescence. The current position also require the use of a personal vehicle and valid no-fault automobile insurance coverage as a condition of employment (mileage will be reimbursed).
There is one vacancy with the Department of Planning and Permitting, Customer Services Office.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States of a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
TWO (2) years of experience in inspecting or supervising building construction, preparing and/or reading and applying building plans and specifications, or interpreting and/or applying the Building Code and related ordinances.
Substitution: An Associate degree in architectural or engineering drafting OR a Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Engineering from a regionally-accredited college or university will substitute for the required experience.
Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

  1. Graduation from high school, and
