About Our Job
This is a paid internship position starting in Summer 2023 with the possibility to continue through the end of year, or beyond depending on need and availability. This position is expected to work approximately 30 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits. The location of this internship is onsite or hybrid depends on each division's project and needs, which is subject to change at any time, however some onsite work is required.

The City and County of Denver's Community Planning and Development Department (CPD) is responsible for visionary city planning and ensuring safe, responsible, sustainable building. CPD works with Denver's communities to prepare land use plans, as well as regulations for land use and design, that guide the city's growth, enhancement, and preservation. Our staff also reviews, permits, and inspects development applications to ensure that future construction meets the community-led regulations laid out in Denver's zoning codes as well as meets the rigorous standards of the city's building, fire, and energy codes. About CPD's Internship Experience
Here's a secret people don't talk about enough: many of the established professionals you see in the world around you didn't have a clear idea of the type of careers they would end up in when they were starting out. There's a good amount of trial and error involved.
CPD's internship experience goal is to give young people a head-start on that exploration process. The experience aims to provide an opportunity for new to workforce to see for themselves the career opportunities available in the public sector, from city planning and community development to building construction, communications, marketing, public affairs, and many other related fields.
As an intern, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Assist in administrative projects as well as investigate complaints from concerned citizens
  • Attend project team meetings, workgroups and city council meetings
  • Begin to understand the development philosophy of the City and County of Denver
  • Work closely with teams that are shaping the future of Denver's development
  • Ride along with building inspectors, plan reviewers and zoning inspectors
  • Other projects, as assigned
About You
Our ideal candidate will have/be:
  • Self starter with a solid work ethic,
  • Able to work collaboratively within a team
  • Strong attention to detail, time management and organizational skills
  • Effective communicator both written and verbal
  • Currently enrolled in high school or a recent high school graduate
